This is for anyone who might be interested in using gamepads on PCUAE. Maybe you tried a gamepad and not all the buttons were mapped. You might have even found the SDL2 Gamepad Tool and followed the instructions to create a game controller string for the gamecontrollerdb file only to have it completely disable your controller!? Perhaps you were playing with the OneLoad carousels and discovered the control configs only considered THE Joystick as an input option. Next thing you might be thinking, 'oh no, I have to manually change 100's of config strings'.
But wait, maybe there's a solution, but TLDR life... Also, there's a free program called Notepad++ This program will let you open an entire carousel folder of TSG files. Then you can use the Search/Replace function to find all occurrences of "JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,F1,F3,F5,,," and replace with something like "JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,EN,F1,JF,JF,SP,RS,F3,JF,JF". Save all opened 200+ files and enjoy having a mapped fire button.
Another tip: The change carousel option is painfully slow and inaccessible without a keyboard or THE Joystick. But you can just rename whatever carousel folder you want to "Favorites_1" and it will just boot up to that.

I'm an idiot. If I had taken a minute to look in PCUAE Manager File tab / Preferences / Controller, you ca set your default string. Then under Tools / reset controller configs...
