Hi, there are certain games which (of course) have joystick support only, such as Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken or Elvira I & II, which would be more conveniently played by mouse.
The new Eye of the Beholder conversion shows how nice it is to play such a game with mouse support.
Is there a way to use the mouse (A500 mini mouse or other) for the C64 Maxi for such games with have joystick support only?
Thanks in advance.

Some games for the C64 and Amiga have been altered to allow you to use things like paddles or a mouse. I'd try searching for those roms.
Lacking finding a rom for a game that's been altered, if you have access to the controller settings of a fully featured emulator (like launching vice for the C64 or an Amiga emulator, which you can do using PCUAE on the C64 mini/maxi or PCUAE or Pandory on the A500 mini), i would guess you can probably set the individual controls for each specific game you want to alter to whatever input device you want to use, much like you can pretty much map any controller layout differently for any specific game, or even map keys that would normally be used in a game to controller buttons (like say on a sinclair spectrum that often didn't even have joystick controls and only used keys). Then those settings are saved for that specific game so every time you launch it it's setup for your desired controls.

Talking about the mouse, SCUMMVM is now coming to THEC64 Mini/THEC64 and THEVIC20 so not just for THEA500 now.. and you should be able to use the mouse from THEA500 with it.
