Hi,
Running 1.6.1 on Snowbird TheC64 Maxi (USA), I thought I was on the right path as a first time install of PCUAE, using PCUAE-MGR 2.10.2 (with 3.2 downloader4), but I wasn't expecting everything to be set for Amora. I see in the text log (pcuea-mode-thec64-boot-log.txt) that it reports snowbird, so perhaps some system recognition could be automated, or spit out related warning messages where applicable.
Should I have gone with a different selection vs [THEC64 stand alone] as the first choice? The all-in-one type option instead? Based on some forum threads, it seemed the stand alone would be safest.
Still, I can get Favorites_1 to work, that's about it. Knowing where to put the folder the first time around, that was kind of all over the place. There will still be references to use a different folder, even in messages presented from the software. Default settings for PCUAE-MGR should probably use "THEC64-CAROUSEL-GAMES" instead of "Carousel_Games\Games"... In the text log and elsewhere you'll see references to use "PCUAE_THEC64_Carousel_Games".
-Invoking CTRL-F1 results in an endless black screen with some music. If I then press CTRL-RESTORE about 20 times, eventually it will restart.
-Invoking CTRL-F3 (Version Changer) presents options, but it isn't clear what to choose for my scenario.
-Invoking the fake firmware again within Sys Info, I tried #4 (PCUA Remover), but this doesn't work. The option will say "Now pick YES or NO on the next screen...?" which never happens, it just returns to the previous menu option (this was attempted multiple times). [UPDATE: some other toggle options did nothing but uninstall/reinstall autoboot, the wording on the many questions asked were not all that clear as to what you were choosing to do, but using CTRL-F5 for MODES, and one of the options allowed for getting to a similar screen presenting #4 PCUA Remover worked and presented the YES/NO option for confirmation, which did not happen via the fake firmware selection.]
Some general comments:
-You should probably add "-noprofile" to your powershell commands in the batch file. Performing tasks via PCUAE Manager, even if run as Admin, will not run the batch files as admin. The commands will try to load my PS profile, and that will fail, causing an error, and it flashes quickly, so you immediately assume the command isn't going to work, but it does, just without my profile settings. If I manually run a command prompt as admin (my default setting for cmd) to run one of the batch files, it's fine, since in that scenario, it will load my PS profile without issues.
-With the text log, how about adding some timestamps, at least for when options are chosen? I'm not sure if you're appending regularly to that file, but if nothing else, there should be a timestamp at the start of the session.
-If I end up having to unbrick, how would the unbricking docs change for a snowbird system?
-Verbiage could be a bit more clear in some places in the custom option/mode, etc. menus
-Can you provide, or is there another way to cursor up and down instead of requiring the joystick on the PCUAE option screens? Such as how H,J,K,U is available from the keyboard for the stock RGL system screens.
Any assistance for best options for SNOWBIRD setup appreciated , thank you!
