I like to play two-player (simultaneously) games on my TheC64 (Maxi) . Some games work fine while others don't. How can that be?
For instance, Wizard of Wor works flawless with two joysticks while I can only get one joystick working in Boubble Bobble. It doesn't seem to matter which joystick I put in which USB port. Both joysticks work fine in the carousel menu.
I get that a USB controller is something else than an original C64 joystick, but how can it work fine in some games but not in others?
Any tips on how to get both working in games such as Boubble Bobble and Wizball?
I use the latest version of PCUAE (does it matter?), the original joystick that came with TheC64, and an old less known USB gamepad I already had.

I have the same problem. Also in Bruce Lee, I am only able to use one joystick. To avoid any joystick problems my strategy was to use the original Joystick together with a THEGAMEPAD-game-pad. What I found out so far: a) If I run the game over the "media access" feature, where I just browse through the USB stick directory and select BRUCELEEIIIII.crt.gz from my Favorites directory: both joysticks work and I can control the player with one joystick and the opponent with the other joystick. (I attached them to 2 of the 3 USB ports to the right of THEC64, my USB stick is plugged in to the 3rd USB port to the right side as well.). b) Another thing I found out, that if I start Bubble Bobble (or Bruce Lee) from the carousel by pressing the action joystick, only that one works. If I start the game by pressing THEGAMEPAD, only that one works. If I start the game by pressing RETURN, no joystick works.
PCUAE is amazing, it would make me very happy if there would be a solution for playing all two player games as easy as one player games. ...I forgot to say: thank you!

I was able to fix it: 1) Open the tsg file for the game Bruce Lee on your USB stick: E:\THEC64-CAROUSEL-GAMES\Favorites_1\BRUCELEEIIIIII-ms.tsg 2) There is only one line for the configuration of one joystick (Starting with "J:1..."). Therefore I added an additional line (Starting with J:2:...") to it. Afterwards the last two line in the working file looked like this:
J:1*:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,F1,F3,F5,,, J:2:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,F1,F3,F5,,,
Instead of just this (just one joystick):
J:1*:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,F1,F3,F5,,,
This enabled both joystick for the game Bruce Lee.
For Bubble Bobble the two joystick lines in E:\THEC64-CAROUSEL-GAMES\Favorites_1\BUBBLEBOBBLE-ms.tsg need to look like this:
J:1:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,JF,JF,JF,,, J:2*:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,JF,JF,JF,,,
Instead of this (only one joystick):
J:1*:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,F1,F3,F5
PS: The strange thing that it was working when I launched the game from the "Media Access" menu point, was most probably related to the fact, that I was launching the game from another (old) location on the USB stick (e.g. E:\Carousel_Games\Games\Favorites_1 or similar), where I already messed around with the Joystick settings and the Configuration Manager.
