Good evening all,
I've recently bought a 2nd hand C64 Mini without controller, thinking I could simply connect my Speedlink Competition Pro that had worked fine on the C64 Maxi I had before.
Wrong.
Not a single response to this joystick in the main menu (carrousel). Connecting a NES type gamepad I get up/down/right/music off and that's it. There's no getting to the settings menu to force a firmware update, so I'm sort of stuck.
Other than trying to get the standard controller (which I don't believe would work anyway), does anyone have a clue what can be done here?
Thanks loads in advance!

The Netherlands You probably need to update the firmware to the latest version and then it should recognise the Speedlink. You can control the Mini with a USB keyboard, the keys and their functions are in the Mini's manual.

Another option is to buy the A500 controller. They even sell a slick looking black one, but then again you'll also need to update the firmware.
If you want to use a SNES controller I've heard the 8 Bit Duo (or whatever it's called) works even with original firmware. I'm using the InNext SNES style controller. I think it worked with even original firmware for the most part if I remember right. Few buttons could be remapped a little but I haven't got around to that yet. They're fairly decent controllers for as cheaply priced as they are. I think a two pack was only either $10 or $20 on Amazon.
If you have any other controllers laying around try them too. Some worked with original firmware. The Logitech wireless controller (F710 or something like that?) worked with original firmware.

Starting to wonder if something may be up with the USB controller itself? Maybe I should just pop in a USB stick to see if the volume shows up.

That, and if you can, try a different power supply.
