Sorry its taken so long for the next version of PCUAE, had to change a few things in it so hopefully PCUAE 3.0.4 will be released today, its getting close now, I have to check it and make sure it all works property and its only me working on it now so it will take a little longer to release now, best things come to those who wait... I have now changed the root of the USB Drive so where the carousel menu sees its files, on both THEC64 and THEA500 now, I changed it to make it easier to load games that are in it the carousel and add mods to THEA500 Mini, its a lot better this way and it alot more straight forward ... and less confusing where you put .d64 or .ahi files.

On the other hand, the loading site has fallen?

PCUAE V3.0.4 also works for C64 mini? Yeah the sites have been closed down now, and yes it works on THEC64 Mini, it works on all RGL's machines, you can get PCUAE here... thec64community.online/thread/603/pcuae-manager or uses PCUAE Manager to download it.

Yeah thx for all the hard work. I haven't updated my C64 mini for a long time though it's been stored away while I've deep cleaned the house and garage over last few months getting everything off my to do list. Threw out or sold off a bunch of clutter to get things organized then I'll be setting the mini back up again. I've already got my raspberry pi set up again. Feels great to have everything cleaned and organized. Less on your mind when there's not a bunch of useless junk cluttering up things. Lol

Thanks for this marvelous piece of software!
However: I have a problem with de-activating the autoboot-option - I hope that someone can help! (or, if it is a bug, that it will be fixed in the next version)
What happened: I installed the newest PCUAE 3.04 on USB-stick, as per instructions
Autoboot itself does function. However, I want to remove it ... and that is not succesful!
What I did: 1) via CTRL-F1 chose the autoboot-option. It the *incorrectly* reports that autoboot is *not* activated. 2) if I then choose for re-writing the autoboot in firmware, re-boot, do CTRL-F1 and choose again the autoboot-option, this time around it does report correctly that autoboot is activated and gives me the choice to de-activate it 3) Then I chose to de-activate it, it seems to do a proper job, but alas: it is still activated
There is obviously something left in the firmware that cannot be removed, and that prevents the TheC64 from booting with any other USB-stick (boots into a black screen..)
HELP - can someone help me out?
Thanks for your help,
Maarten

Hi, thanks for the reply, but I still have huge problems - somehow it messed up the firmware of my TheC64.
What I did: - I followed your wiki-instructions exactly - I installed the new 3.0.4k version an a freshly formatted USBstick - but now PCUAE won't boot properly ... it remains stuck at the blue/white "PCUAE Anniversary edition" screen, it never proceeds beyond that (could it be a bug in version k?) - apart from that, it still refuses to boot with another (non-PCUAE) USB-stick inserted - screen remains black forever
What I need, I think, is a way to remove all the changes that PCUAE applied to my firmware (as far as I understand: the autobot option and script are written to firmware, and they somehow block booting correctly, with a PCUAEstick and with a non-PCUAE stick)
Can you help please?
*EDIT* It is even worse ... when I boot my TheC64 (Maxi) normally (no USB-stick, also no PCUAE) it becomes terribly slow, games are unplayable, and sometimes (results vary) it is even not possible to select a game in the carousel, it then selects the game left of right. It drives me crazy!
The root cause must be some data written in firmware by PCUAE (version 3.04j and/or 3.0.4k)...
So: caution to others, when playing with these versions....!
And please: help me to restore it to the original firmware condition! (also factory reset does not help)
Thanks in advance!
KR Maarten

KR Maarten Hi, I was able to make the autoboot work again by re-installing the version J. However it seems no longer available on the github, maybe the version would do the trick. In any case that's a regression.

I was assuming that it was because I have too any games loaded in the carrousel, but no! @spannernick please help us indeed to understand how to restore stock firmware or remove completely the autoboot, this issue is a dealbreaker!

Ah, thanks for the suggestion: luckily I had a copy of version 3.0.4j I installed it, and at least my TheC64 Maxi is nog sluggishly slow anymore, I can play my favorite games in a normal way ... l-)
So apparently the newest version 3.0.4lk obtains a bug @spannernick 🙏🏻
And the autoboot option still cannot be removed ... which means that my TheC64 cannot boot with any USBstick inserted... also please @spannernick can you give a method to remove all remainders of the autoboot from firmware? 🙏🏻
And Math is right: I prefer the older PCUAE-version without autoboot: works perfectly & smooth. The autoboot-versions do not run smooth and take a lot of time to load and switch between options, with awkwardly slow text screens in between...
But the pre-autoboot version that I now run is fantastic!

Happy to know it helps drcreep! I've got some question as I'm still really new to this: with the version 3.0.4j installed, do you have the proper theC64 logo displayed in the carousel? On my side I've got theVic20 in place. You're saying using the pre-autoboot version, what version is that? Does that mean that you are not using autboot anymore? Is there any way to deactivate it?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Yeah, I'm also kinda new here... I downloaded a pre-autoboot version from redirect.viglink.com/?key=71fe2139a887ad501313cd8cce3053c5&subId=6934309&u=https%3A//drive.google.com/file/d/1LsaxprHToIjoj3eTxTgWikZ4432RBz8w/view%3Fusp%3Dsharing(this link is shared in the thread "PCUAE Carousel Gamelists" (1st post, by oocozyoo). You can just unzip it to a USBstick, and within the TheC64 it then shows up as a fake-fw-update that you can install. This is an older version (I'm not sure which version, don't know where to see that), that does not have autoboot, and runs smoothly. Mind you that it uses an older version of the original firmware (older than 1.6..1). One of the drawbacks I noted is that you cannot change JS-ports by pressing Menu + 1st or 2nd small button. That's a pity but not a dealbreaker. And when you re-boot your TheC64 it will run the original fw again, so you don't loose the 1.6.1-features. And BTW: this version show the C64-logo :-) (the newer version 3.0.4j indeed also with me shows the VIC20-logo - not a real big issue, but I noticed that it did bother me somehow .... ;-)

Hi drcreep. The link that you posted, is that an older version of PCUAE, or one of the original versions by Retrogames? Can you post a link to the post made by oocozyoo?
I am also on the latest version of PCUAE, which is said to have many problems (slow loading, slow changing between options, Vic20 logo...). Are you saying that if I install the version in your link, I get something that works better? I'm also afraid of bricking my TheC64 now that I somehow have a modified firmware with autoboot. I would like to downgrade from the latest version somehow.
