Hi,
I have the Amiga 500 Mini and the C64 Maxi. I added an additional "TheGAMEPAD" to the Amiga and a "Competion Pro" Joystick to the C64 Maxi. All is working perfect. The USB stick with flash updates and game are working - no problem.
Today I received a C64 Mini and it only works with the supplied Joystick. Not even with the original Joystick from the C64 Maxi and the "Competition Pro". Also the USB sticks which work on my other ones are not detected.
Defective or am I doing something wrong?

Did you update the firmware yet? The fact that it isn't working with the C64 Maxi joystick seems odd to me. Far as I know the only difference between them is the Maxi joystick has micro switches instead of pressure pads internally. And I'm pretty sure Retro Games LTD has been promoting the Maxi joystick for C64 Mini users to buy separately if they prefer micro switches? If that's the case then they probably did update the firmware to recognize it, or your mini is bad. I'm pretty sure they already did that in fact for both the C64 mini and maxi so they will recognize the A500 mini gamepad and mouse so C64 mini/maxi users can buy those to use. If anything you can always edit the config text file to recognize new controllers. Search here for threads. I just think it's odd the the maxi joystick appears then to have a different controller USB board in it than the mini joystick since you say it isn't working? Or as said it's a defective mini.
Far as usb sticks go, search here for ones known to be compatible with the mini. If one of those isn't working then I'd lean more towards the mini having some kind of USB chip interfacing issues. Do any USB sticks you tried work at all? If not then it's probably a bad mini. BTW it prefers sticks 32 gig or less if I remember right.

I tried both USB ports on the Mini with the original joystick from the Maxi and the Competition Pro Stick (which works just great on the Maxi) and they do not work on this Mini at all. I have two USB sticks (one 8 GB Intenso and one 8GB Sandisk) which work with the Maxi and the A500. They are not being recognized, same as the joysticks from the Maxi. So I can't update the firmware.
Anyway. I've ordered a new Mini from a different seller and this one is going back.

Just a quick follow up. Got a new one. Only worked with the joystick which came with it. As last time. This time it detected my firmware update. I updated the firmware. Now it also detects my other USB stick as well as the joystick from the Maxi and Speedlink Competition Pro. Now I'm waiting for a USB Hub to get my keyboard connected.

Good to hear. So sounds like the USB interface was bad since your prior one wouldn't recognize the firmware on a USB stick to update it.
BTW not all usb hubs will work with the mini or maxi. And it's always a good idea to use a powered hub because of keyboard lights or internal logic, controller internal logic, or that charge an internal battery they use for wireless, etc. I read some A500 mini users thought certain keyboards or controllers wouldn't work but it turns out they weren't using a USB power supply with the A500 that had a high enough amp rating and when they switched to a better power supply they started working.
BTW too not all keyboards work. You can search the threads for hubs and keyboards people say work fine. Although with the latest firmware there might be keyboards and hubs that didn't work before but do now.
