I am wondering if it would be commercially possible for Retrogames Ltd to release a remake of the first C64 monitor, the 1701 as 4:3 LCD with HDMI and SVIDEO, it will be soldout because all the owners of the C64 and real C64 will buy more than 1. Many collectors and the casual gamers will add a remake of the 1701 monitor to their collection because finding a good monitor is not an easy task. Most of the CRTs ended up in the landfill and the remaining need maintanance, and not every one have the skill to fix a CRT, also finding a technician, who is willing to fix it at a price is not easy, therefore all the C64 entusiasts will buy 1 or more because they would prefer a remake of the 1701 instead of their C64 connected to a LED wide-screen monitor or 4:3 LCD with another brand and a different colour. I think that after the A500 mini Retrogames will consider releasing more products, also a remake of the 1084S monitor for the A500 mini will be an interesting product. That's very cool. But rather than making a smaller Commodore monitor I'd make one bigger than the real thing using a somewhat bigger 4:3 lcd screen. I'd also cut the length down so it's just a bit thicker than the screen. When you're sitting down in front of it you won't be looking at the sides or top anyway. For original hardware just use a S video to HDMI (or s video to VGA if the monitor uses that input) converter mounted on the back. Throw a couple pc speakers on the desk behind the screen and you're in business, or mount a couple inside the monitor case.

Looks like you got your wish. The perfect modern monitor for your A500 or C64 mini. My Retro Computer LTD, who owns the right to manufacture original Commodore computer cases and now also has the right to use the Commodore name too, is going the be making Commodore branded LCD monitors with stereo speakers built in. It's definitely got the nostalgia look! I'm sure it's probably just going to be HDMI input but you can easily buy an inexpensive S-Video to HDMI adapter to plug original Commodore 64 hardware into it, and I doubt it will have scanlines or other retro gaming screen settings but there are video adapters out there that have these screen options. Of course if you're using a A500 or C64 mini or some other form of emulation setup those options are already built into the emulator. Look in the description for the specs on the monitor and further Kickstarter details.

I doubt they'll make one that size, but you can always 3D print a case yourself or pay somebody to do it. There are companies who 3D print anything you want.

...few update pics. The first print is now painted up with matching "mini" livery on, all the components connected up (all the extension cables rolled up and actually fitting in!). Now sorting out some bugs - HDMI extension cable issues - so almost working! but not the hdmi (only the most important input, Doh!) Front view Door, hides the screen controls (and the 3rd RCA plug) Back (holding all the video inputs and power extension cabling)... Finished! Running with the C64Mini

Fantastic work! You should send the info to Retro Recipes and I bet he'll feature it on his regular show where he covers stuff like this.

Prototype 2 is done and assembled - this one come out much better. Has a sharper 3D print, higher quality IPS screen (with a remote) and supporting built in USB media playback! Prototypes 1 & 2 stacked (front and back) Number 2 finished and running a new demo

I'm very happy to say, the 1701-mini build video is finally complete! Also I've uploaded it all to print and build yourself on Thingiverse for free! Can i say, thanks again for all the encouragement and support on this thread and Enjoy!
