Hello everyone. I own the C64 Maxi. I recently have downloaded the game Moon Patrol. The game loads up fine. When you play the game it does not recognize the joystick. I first had the joystick in port 2. Then I moved the joystick to port 1 . The game still does not recognize joystick input. If anyone knows how to make this game recognize the joystick I would be thankful. Thank you for your time

Just make sure you've updated the firmware because at least on the mini and I think even on the maxi it initially didn't have the ability to swap ports by hitting two keys on the joystick. You can also assign a file name tag to switch ports automatically when the game is loaded.
Great game by the way. I was hooked on it in the arcade so I was very happy to see such a great port for the C64 when it came out. The game has aged well and is still a blast to play.
