I just installed the new version 1.7.6b8 with PCUAE Manager 2.4.2. Mostly to try the ViCE mode, but it just wont load up, i have set autoboot to on, and confirmed it is, PCUAE does autoboot aswell for me.
And when i go to the Mode menu and pick Vice mode it says all is well and is supposed to bring up Vice in 15secs, the screen blacks for a while and it says PCUAE Mode is loading.
Is it something im missing?

It works for me but thats no help to you is it...  PCUAE Mode loads up if there is a problem making the flag file that tells PCUAE what mode to load, so it sounds like it not making the file to tell it to boot into VICE Mode. There is a log folder on the root of the USB stick, I need to see what each file inside the folder says, not there content, there names, they tell me what mode is booting. If it can not make the flag file for VICE Mode then it could be the USB Stick your using, all you can do is try another, it could be why but it could be something else but not sure until I have seen what the files say in the log folder. You can false PCUAE into VICE Mode and make it do it if you can not do it from PCUAE Mode. If you go into the folder PCUAE_USB:\Carousel_Games\Options\VICE_Mode and see if there is a file called boot_pcuae_enabled if there is then delete it, then make a txt file called boot_vice_enabled.txt with nothing in it, then remove the .txt extension from it so its just boot_vice_enabled, now if you put the USB stick back in to the machine it now should boot it to VICE Mode... |

I got the PAL Maxi btw, didnt mention that. I spammed switching to ViCE Mode, and one two times it actually worked out of, idk 15 tryes maybe. Maybe my USB memory is whacked, but it has been fine with earlier versions P.C. And now that i have listen to the SID in ViCE Mode i do actually like that quite a bit more then the Carousel SID Emulation. Is there anyway to change SID emulation in newer Carousel? i Saw that there are ways to toggle SID in Carousel 1.3.2, but it wont start for me either, just stucks with a blackscreen and i have to force shutdown. I have tried two different USB memorys though, and similiar if not same problems. i really just want better SID emulation  |

You do not have to use a USB Stick, you can try a SD Card and a SD Card reader or a USB SSD Drive, works with both.
what version of PCUAE are you using..?
Did you copy Favorites 1 gamelist from PCUAE Manager, it needs it otherwise you get a black screen...?

Yes, i was using the latest 1.7.6b8. I did copy the Favorite 1 list, also made another gamelist with one game on it,
but trying to change to it also leads to blackscreen. Trying a third USB memory now, and the new update 1.7.6b9.
EDIT: Its weird, nothing seems to work for me with this new version, yeah it boots, autoboots even to PCUAE Favorites 1,
but whatever i want to change, for example Carousel 1.3.2, ViCE Mode, switch Gamelist mode, it just hangs after the Project Carousel popup
with a blackscreen. Tried three different USB memorys now.

I think I know why VICE Mode is coming up with a black screen, it did the same thing to me on my THEVIC20 so I am guessing something has changed with Update 1.6.1, did you update your machine to 1.6.1...? I had to get the machine to load the carousel for 1 second(initialise the screen) before it loaded VICE then VICE appeared and the C64 emulator came up on the screen.... Just release a update for PCUAE 1.7.6b8... pcuae1.7.6b8-update and modes have been updated too.  Get it from PCUAE Manager now. This NEEDS to be installed after you have installed PCUAE 1.7.6b8, it will not work on its own, its only a update, not a full install of PCUAE. This install only includes a update fix for PCUAE 1.7.6b8, it fixes a bug in one of the scripts that makes it show a black screen if Favorites 1 and C64 0 to G gamelists are added. What it will do now is if you do not have Favories_1 folder in the Games folder it will load the carousel from the firmware instead so make sure you add it. Make sure you install this over PCUAE 1.7.6b8, this is a update only, dose not work by itself. Modes have been updated too so VICE Mode works with update 1.6.1.   To start VICE Mode RT = Right Triangle button, Menu = The Menu button on THEC64 Joystick. 1. Start Mode Changer - Press and hold down CTRL(Menu)key and then press F5(RT Button)key and hold down both keys(buttons) for about 2 seconds. 2. Wait for it to load then use CRSR keys and SHIFT to navigate the Mode Menu or use THEC64 Joystick and highlight option 2 - VICE Mode then press RETURN(Left Fire button) 3. VICE Mode will load and you notice the machine doing a reboot then VICE Mode will come up, you should then see the C64 Screen on your screen. 4. Press Menu button on THEC64 Joystick to get to the VICE Menu if you want to load a D64/CRT images or want to get to VICE Settings. If you can not download PCUAE1.7.6b8 from the PCUAE Manager cause its only showing PCUAE1.7.6b8 update then the release for PCUAE are hereI hope this get it working... |

Yes, ViCE mode works fine now! So thats just awesome!, and gamelist switching works fine. Only my gamelist with one game gives blackscreen, its just a newly created gamelist with a filter to match the year 2022, and there is one game that fits that requirement, its a black screen but CTRL + F keys still work, so i can get out of the black screen.
EDIT: Switching to carousel 1.3.2 give a black screen still. Have to delete the "TheCarousel_4All_v1.3.2_enabled" file on the computer the fix it, otherwise it boots to blackscreen, seems to lock up no CTRL F keys work.

I do not think you can only have one game in the carousel that why its not loading and your getting a black screen, I think you need about 5 or 10 games in it, I never tested what was the least amount of games you can have in the carousel, anyway glad its all now working..  |
