Figured I'd start a thread here on my stuff after having some conversations in the forum ( c64stuff looking at you)
The day I ordered my Maxi I ordered a replacement badge (logo) for my machine. Dont judge me, wanted it to look as real as the original I had once LoL!
Replacement badge for my MAXI
and of course needed a meme to compliment it
Last but not least, my collection: (left to right) - Original VIC-20 which I picked up on ebay a few years ago. Bought it untested and planed to convert it into a PC (aka Frankenstein it). Ended up booting up so I kept it. VIC was my first computer so it's special to me
- Top is a new C64c case (kickstarter from a few years ago that made a batch of them). Inside there is Macbook Pro motherboard w/ 16GB of RAM and a 512 SSD. Logo was purchased from a vendor in Poland. Keyboard is an original I picked up on ebay and is connected via USB using a Kerah board.
- No intro needed here, theC64 MAXI I picked up. Dont think I'll be modding this further (for now at least). Added the c64 badge (seen above) and like it just the way it is now.
For the VIC, might pick up one of them fancy mega carts. I also ordered a pi1541 hat for the rpi zero which I'll 3D print a case for. The idea is to keep it as is, original and unmodified. I was looking around to see if there is any HDMI solution for these machine so if anyone has come across anything please let me know. I was reading that some of these display cables may damage the machine; something about sending the wrong voltage back to the machine. Worse case I can just use an old 15" flat screen I have laying around; that's what I tested it with using a composite cable.
Once I get the pi1541 setup and case printed I'll post some pics

Way cool. There is I believe a HDMI mod now for the C64 to do this internally but for the Vic too no worries. Check into the Retrotink. It pretty much converts any type of retro video output into modern HDMI with multiple output options including various forms of scanlines and gets rave reviews. But it's pricey, so if you're just wanting to convert the best, meaning S video output from the C64 I'd just get a s video to HDMI converter and the right cable to mate the non standard C64 cable to it. Same deal with the output type from the Vic. The Retrotink is the best all around solution for converting multiple retro platforms types to HDMI, but if you're only doing it for one or two types best to just buy a cheaper individual convertor.
BTW, Explaining Computes this past year just did a video on a new C64 bread bin case plus keyboard designed to throw a windows based motherboard into. Guy does great videos.

I'll check it out. Thanks!!! I had picked up one of those 5 DIN to composite cables and it worked on a tv/monitor with composite ports. Yeah I saw that case you are talking about. It looks VERY similar to those Commodore USA cases/pc from the 2010's. Price isnt really that bad if you think about it. They have two cases, VIC and C64: myretrocomputer.com/product-category/cases/?currency=USDThat size case an easily fit an Intel NUC (striped down) or any small form factor mobo. Havent looked into the kb yet but it says it uses cherry mx red keys. If the are LED, then this will probably be my next build.

That's cool. I miss these projects. Had an accident last February injuring my hand. Had to sell off my stash of C64s, disk drives, a Commodore monitor, etc that I was fixing and restoring. Even had to sell off my Maxi, but kept the mini and my RetroPie setup and hand is just about ready to go back to work again. Could have been much worse, and I'm gonna start my retro collection back up when I do.

F*ck that's horrible! Hope all is well now. Well at least you didnt listen to your ex and toss out your c64. I regret that to this day.
Before I got my Maxi (over the holidays) I put together and nice flight stick arcade with a stand. I made some custom graphics for it and threw a RPI 4 in it. If youre in the US, check out Microcenter's Atari fight stick. I've been a retropie fan since the dawn of the project. Recently I started playing with Batocera and its just set it and forget it. Hooked up a 256GB M.2 to it and its been rock solid! Another cool project I worked on was my NEOGEO Mini. That was fun.
Next for my Maxi I am going to re-wire the RF sensor and see if I can get my xbox360 controllers on them. Have like 5 of them so I want to see if I can get them to work. I just hate the controller that came with it. It looks super cool and retro but I just hate how it feels in my hands and playing games.

Yeah been following ETA Prime for years now. Batocera is great! Have it installed on my rpi4 with one of those argon one cases. Good stuff. Looks like a sweet build! Saw the pic you posted. All it needs is some nice vinyl graphics and it will be sweet af! Ill post some pic's of mine. Went with a SF2 theme I have the wired Logitec Rumble Pad, very similar which is my goto controller. I was looking into remaping it as the R1 is the fire button and its annoying.
