Hello everyone. I found this site whilst searching for how to add games to my C64 mini, and the project carousel sounds perfect, but I can't get it to work Most of the video walkthroughs online seem to be about the maxi, so I'm not sure if I've missed something extra that I need to do? Here is what I did: Download PCUAE manager v2.2.2 on my PC Insert a freshly formatted 8GB USB drive Click PCUAE>Install PCUAE to USB drive, takes a few minutes, seems to go OK, message appears, do I want to export games now? Click YES > Highlight C64 0_to_G, H_to_R and S_to_Z > Export. Seems to go OK > Close. Eject the USB stick, put it in the C64 mini. Power it on, run the 'fake firmware update' Screen goes black, then the Retro Games splash screen, then Project Carousel Splash screen. System reboots itself, and just starts as normal. Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

ah I think I know why, after you see the two splash screens wait 20 seconds if not Carousel then press and hold Menu then press Left Fire Button for 2 seconds to load the Carousel Gamelist Loader, now pick a Carousel to load and press fire, now it should load the carousel, it because it sees Favorites 1 as default cause you have not added Favorites 1 so need to make a new switch.sh script from Carousel Gamelist Loader.

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid I don't understand when to press the buttons. After two splash screens the system reboots, and shows a third splash screen (retro games C64) then it is as normal. Am I to press and hold the buttons on the normal C64 home screen? It simply selects whatever I am highlighting?

I watched one help video, 'installing the pcuae 1.60 on the c64 and game and mode packs on the c64 mini' but it is quite long and I found it a bit hard to follow what was going on. There seems to be quite a lot in there that I didn't do.
Same with the wiki I'm afraid. Maybe I'm getting old and can't follow instructions any more! I feel that some super-concise step by step instructions or short video would be helpful?
Would it help if I posted a screenshot from file explorer of what is on my USB stick?

Did you only export theses folders only... C64 0_to_G, H_to_R and S_to_Z if so you missed Favorites_1 so thats why your getting a black screen, you need to export it and PCUAE will work, it looks for it when it starts up.

Well, that seems to have fixed it! Thanks so much for your help. I was following this walkthrough thread, thec64community.online/thread/1005/project-carousel-usb-1-walkthrough - Section 4 doesn't really make this clear, so it might be worth adding something here? Going to get stuck in to some of the games now. I'm sure I'll have more questions though! In fact here, is one - Can I replace game files if I have a better one for a game - case in point, I cant seem to get tapper to work, but I have a working ROM file (one of my favourite games, and the first I tried to add to my mini before finding this project) Thanks again!

I am glad its working now.... I have fixed it in the next version I like the games Tapper too, I have it on the US Gold - Arcade Hall of Fame 4 Games Compilations on cassette(C64)(Spy Hunter, Up`N`Down, Tapper and Aztec Challenge included) and in the 80s too, I have most of my games on Cassette that I had when I was a kid for my original C64. I didn't realise Tapper didn't work, it should work now if you redownload the PCUAE Manager and export the game to your USB Stick.

Hello I have a problem with my C64 mini. I installed PCUAE on and use a USB with PCUAE and an older USB with other games on. whenever I turn on my c64 mini with my older USB, the sound phases in and out and my mini is unstable/crashes - this happens even if I turn on the mini with a blank usb on. I can do a workaround of turning on the mini and only then inserting the older usb, but just wondering if this is common? It would be great if it didn't do this (like before I installed PCUAE). I only use the c64 mode - I can't get other modes to work and seems complicated for me ( i read and reread the wiki) my build is the C64 -1.6.1 - argent, ( I know there are later versions, but I am reluctant to upgrade as it seems so complicated). build date 17-12-2021. I think the project it amazing and well done to you.
thanks

It could be the Power supply, you could try a different one like a 3 amp, most are 1 amp, I use a 3 amp with mine and THEC64 Mini works fine with PCUAE, I have the mini and vic20 so test PCUAE on them all the time.
