These are arguably the best of the best in the Ultima series for the C64 and probably the best role playing games, next to Bards Tale. Again no intro needed here right? All of the below are single disk or cart formatted and the latter two have been remastered; graphics have been updated etc. If you were a fan of these games, this is the collection you want on your c64!
Ultima III: Exodus (GOLD)
Notes: Ultima III is probably one of the most legendary of the series. This version Gold, has been compressed to a single disk image .d64
Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar v.2.2.1 (Remastered)
Notes: This remastered edition has graphics and music updates; too long to list. Considered by many the best of! Images include .d64, .crt, .d81, .d71
Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny (*Remastered)
Notes: In short, whomever disagreed Ultima IV was the best will tell you THIS one is the best ever! Remastered, well not really but includes single disk .crt and .d81 images Link: csdb.dk/release/?id=187483

Thank you! So happy to have these--- now has anyone compressed Might and Magic 1 & 2? Those are my very favorite C64 games.

BastichB recently did a video documentary on the history of this game. He also just did one for the history of arcade games. He's excellent at this history series of stuff.
Btw, I think 8 bit guy mentioned in a video that the 128 version of this game is probably the best ever. Can't remember what video he mentioned that in. Might have been the Commodore 128 history video.
I never did play Ultimate, but one of these D and D games I was hooked on for the 64 is Sword Of Fargoal. Give it a try if you haven't.

Thank you! So happy to have these--- now has anyone compressed Might and Magic 1 & 2? Those are my very favorite C64 games. I can say I never played those games. Took a quick look and its 6 disks (damn!!!) That must of taken forever to load. I'll keep and eye out an post it if I come across it. Have Bard's Tale and Bard's Tale 3 in .d81 format. I can post those if anyone is interested. Speaking of Bard's Tale, there are editors out there that can modify the characters. Something I need to try at some point and make up my own names, which I can be VERY creative with LoL!!!
c64stuff - The Amiga version was really good. C128 had so much potential. Sword Of Fargoal someone had done a review, and it looked cool. Have that on my list of game to try

Have that on my list of game to try Might and Magic is similar to Bard's Tale-- both great series but M&M are the ones I started with and played like crazy growing up. Yeah, all that disk switching was a royal pain back in the day. Part of the experience I guess. They went up to make another 8 Might and Magics in the series (for other PC systems) and a few spin-offs including the popular Heroes of Might and Magic strategy game series. Good stuff! Have the .d81 versions of Bard's Tale 1 and 3... but if you run across # 2 let me know!

If I remember right I had Sword Of Fargoal on tape before I got a disk drive, but I'd still use the tape drive just so I could play that game and otherwise I never used the tape drive for anything else.
One thing I do remember is you could do the Commodore key break to actually stop the game because at least part of it was written in basic, and I thought it was so cool because the font style was still in ancient lettering and the background sound effect would still play.
One reason I liked the game is because it was simple and didn't involve tons of instructions to know how to use. That background sound effect is classic and instantly recognizable when I hear it. It set the atmosphere for it being a dungeon crawler.
There's a new game that was based on Sword Of Fargoal. It might even be on the firmware that comes with the mini and maxi. I think BastichB did a review of this game a while back or at least shows it in passing with various other games. I didn't even know it was based on Sword Of Fargoal and instantly it reminded me of it

I got my C64 Maxi for Christmas with hopes of replaying some classics like these. If you don't mind - can you go into more detail on how to get them to run on the Maxi? I've put the gamedisk files on a USB stick and for some reason Ultima V runs just fine, but I can't get III or IV to work. The screen to turn on the various cheat options will run but once you cycle through those (whether or not you turn any on) both games just freeze there and don't actually start up the game itself. Any clues or tips as to what I'm doing wrong?

Sorry for the delayed response. I just used the d81 images (single disk) and didnt have any issues. My machine is set to NTSC but used PAL for the emulation. Not sure if that helps.
