Got a TheC64 full size for Christmas, been playing d64s and the like from flash. I've read quite a bit about pcuae and have a flash ready but I'm hesitant. How safe is it and how likely am I to brick my system. Now granted I've modded my Wii, 3DS and my PS2. With one out of 3 the hack isn't permanent (PS2). School me on what this does to the system. From what I've read it doesn't touch system files at all and will only possibly brick is flash is removed while running (who would do such a thing?).

Way I understand it you won't mess with any flash stuff if you're just updating to the fake firmware after every time you boot. It's only altering memory until you power up again and then it's back to using the stock firmware. I think it only alters it if you're doing other Project Carousel things that you want it to automatically do at boot up, but if I have any of this wrong I'm sure somebody will correct me. If somehow you did brick the machine there are now methods to rewrite the firmware via an external terminal connection I believe.

Bit the bullet and tried it, works like it supposed too. The amount of work that has gone into this is crazy. I'll play around with it some more today but think for now I'll avoid auto boot.
