I still cant understand why the did not call it the Commodore 64 Mini. It seems they have gone out of there way to ensure that the word "Commodore" it does not even appear anywhere on the box.
From what I understand Cloanto own the rights to the name as well as the O/S so why not use the Commodore name?
Any Ideas???

The cost of a license would of bumped the price of the mini big time.
Take Lotus the car company, they do not sell many cars a year so when someone asks for a license for the Lotus Trilogy games the company end up asking crazy money to make up any short fall, to a small car company this is like hitting the jackpot. The same would apply for anyone wishing to use the Commodore name.

cloanto does not own "commodore" (and in fact its even doubtful they own the rights to the ROMs)
in europe the "commodore" bran is owned by "polabe holding" - which is not interested in products like this thing. right now individual computers (www.icomp.de) licensed the commodore brand for some selected products (like the C64R MK2)

Not sure about the shakiness of Colanto's rights though. I'm sure they have got a few well dressed suits with a solid claim to the old Roms and Breadbin form.
What a mess lol

The brand is now owned by C= Holdings (formerly Commodore International B.V.): Reunite became the sole owner of it in 2010, after buying the remaining shares from the bankrupt Nedfield, then sold it to Commodore Licensing BV, a subsidiary of Asiarim, later in 2010.
