C64 Mini
I've downloaded all of the relevant PCUAE carousel files, copied them to the USB stick (which I've previously used to do firmware updates to my C64 Mini) and when I go to update the firmware, it's detected OK (thec64-9_9_90.bin) and select 'APPLY'.
Once I've done that, the screen goes black and remains black even after leaving it for 5+ mins. If I reboot the C64, it returns to the standard C64 mini firmware and everything works fine.
I thought the PCUAE firmware file may have been corrupted, but even after downloading again, I just get the black screen after selecting 'APPLY'.

Could it be that the updated firmware is going into a screen mode your tv doesn't support, such as pal vs NTSC or some of the variant screen ratio settings? Probably not if it's a modern LCD screen built in the last decade because they pretty much support everything.

I don't think it's that, because it would generally just says 'no signal'. It's a pretty modern monitor as well and supports PAL/NTSC with various screen refresh times.
I didn't have any issues updating the official firmware, after seleceting apply, that all went ahead without issue.

No, it's literally just a black screen. I've tried leaving it for a good 5 mins and nothing. The original firmware update when fine. I've watched a few videos and know that there should be two splash screens that appear fairly early on.

Can you tell me what files you see in the log folder on the root of the USB Stick, if you see none then start PCUAE up like you would normally and wait about 1 to 2 minutes then turn off the machine by pressing and holding down the power button for 6 seconds then put USB Stick in PC and show me what files are in the log folder....?

I have the same problem here. Using the 2.2.2 PCUAI Manager, I've set up the USB Stick 3 times now. The first time I had it formatted fat32, and it was seen, and I got black screen freeze and no splash screens then realized it wasn't in MBR mode. So I reformatted it FAT32 in MBR using FAT32Formatter and EASEUS for MBR Conversion, and tried again. Black screen and no splash screens? then I thought to safely eject thinking the fake file bin might have been compromised . I did the whole process over again, and still, getting a frozen Black screen after attempting a fake file (9.9.90) firmware update? Was a cause/solution ever found for this?
