Hi all, earlier this spring or last fall, I saw some where a picture of the usb IC chip in side of the c-64 mini joystick. It showed the pin out names for the IC. Not sure if it was on this community site or some where else on the internet. Did any one here see this picture if so where can I find it. regards allie

It might be, it's been a while since I saw it. It's something like that. I tried finding this IC chip on the internet and could not find it any where. But I guess this IC would have to be programmed for the c64 mini joystick. I have 7 c64 mini's and their joysticks. I want to Mod a mini joystick circuit to CPU like the Basic Stamp from Parallax for control to the c64 mini. This is why I need the pin out for joystick IC. If I'm allowed I can take one out of one of my joysticks.

Where did the above IC pin out drawing come from. Thanks for the quick reply. Regards Allie.

Ok, I used my ohm meter to find where the pinout's go according to the diagram and my readings are different. I tested from the pinout from the button to the IC and things are not the same. I have been doing this stuff for years. I'm not complaining I'm just trying to figure this out. I asked if I would be allowed to take the IC out of the c64 mini joystick and put it in my own circuit to use for inputs to the c64 mini. Regards Allie

Is yours like this...? If so this is a different version of the board to the first joystick so its IC might be different to the diagram, the diagram is based on the first version of the board. The IC on this board is upside down. See the dot of the diagram on the IC, its at the bottom right and its on the top left on this IC so its upside down. Turn the board upside down and it will be the same as the diagram.

No it's not. I know what you mean by the dot on the IC. The diagram had it on the bottom right and the last picture has it on the top left. I worked with IC's for over 40 years as a hobby. The reason why the pin out's are different may be because my joystick has a newer board with the # C64-RGL002B V3.0. The one in the picture you sent me is # C64-RGL001 V2.0. They must have changed the boards. I'll get a camera and send a picture. I'll all so find out where all the traces on the board go an try to draw a diagram. Regards Allie

I forgot to mention the # on the IC on my board # C64-RGL002B V3.0 is GH001. I measured the voltage from the push buttons and the joy stick up, down, left, right that go to the IC, readings was between 4.93 and 4.94 volts on all pads.

No that's not it. My joystick did come with the c64 mini. I'll try to get a picture and send it later.

Oh ok.. It must use the same IC cause it has on IC "GH001" and has it in the IC on theC64 MS Joystick, see if you trace the lines from the IC to the Up/Down, Left/Right and the buttons or use a multimeter and set it to continuity and put black on one of the IC legs and red on one of the joystick directions or buttons and see if it buzzes.

This is the markings on the board I have. The one you sent me is c64-RGL001 V2.0. Same IC just a different board with the pin out traces going to different fire buttons and menu buttons. I'll send you a picture of the IC.

I had a picture of the IC, could see the markings o.k. but when I added the picture to the post it was to small to see the writing, so I didn't send it. I tried to take more pictures but all were blurry, I'll try again in a few days or tomorrow. I know what you mean by using my ohm meter to test from IC pins to fire buttons and menu buttons. I've been busy working at the house lately and didn't get the chance yet. It's giving bad weather for a few days so maybe then. regards allie

It looks like a GH001, and the Capcom Home Arcade has GH001 USB chips in it too from the C64 Mini Joystick, GH001 are the same chip as the first one cause I can use the original THEC64 RED Joystick with CHA and my other THEC64 Red Stick Joystick newer version,(I need to take it apart to see what version it is) don't work.. thec64community.online/thread/426/thec64-maxi-chaThanks for the pictures BTW..

Yes, cause thats one board, not like THEC64 MS Joystick it should be easier to trace, then make a diagram like one I posted, if you can't, I don't mind making one with Photoshop, I can make one for you once I know what each leg is.

Funny really, they made different versions of the main board inside THEC64 Red Stick Joystick but didn't fix the problem with the red stick snapping, the stick has a screw in it thats too long so it makes a hole into the thinker part of the stick where it meets the wider part of the stick where its joined and makes it vulnerable to braking(snapping)it makes that part of the stick hollow, the C64 DTV black stick has a one inch screw and THEC64 red stick has a 2 inch screw, The C64 DTV is what the THEC64 Joystick is based on, the C64 DTV black stick has never snapped and never heard of it snapping, I have two C64 DTV's, PAL and NTSC versions and the stick on them are fine. I wonder what the "GH"001 stands for on the chip, maybe "Game Hub" 001 chip, like USB Hub.. it can't be Ghost Hub.. Oh have you look at this thread... it might help.. thec64community.online/thread/316/another-adding-c64mini-joystick-works

Here is a picture I took about 2 years ago(03/04/2018) of the Main board of the first version of THEC64 Red Stick Joystick that came with the preorder THEC64 Mini. The IC is GH001 and you can see it is cause of the 4 capacitors above or below the IC depending on which way up the IC is, they are marked C1,C2,C3,C4 and look like they are connected to 5v and Ground.

Thanks for everything. The reason why I have not been posting lately is, I had to take my brother to the hospital on the weekend and after we came home on Monday, I got a phone call that my grandson driving a bicycle, got hit by a car and died in the hospital. He is in New Brunswick Canada and I'm in Quebec Canada. I'm trying to find out how I can get to New Brunswick. With Covid 19 and Isolation I'm waiting for a phone call from Canadian national assembly to find out how I travel from Entry Island Magdalene Islands by Ferry Boat to Prince Edward Island and drive across PEI and get to New Brunswick and Isolate.

One of these days I'll continue with the joystick. A diagram of where the chip pin outs go to the buttons. I have it drawn on paper but need to transfer it to the computer. I'll try to use My Draw Pro program to draw it.
