spannernick sorry for these silly questions but if I want to block say jiffydos or the click sound (and go back to the pop sound - call me crazy I like it) do it put the ## on the line in green that currently has one # or the next line that starts with mount in blue in the start.sh file?

You put it on the mount line, like this... # Added a click to replace the popping sound the flip wav mades when moving the joystick #mount --bind /mnt/Carousel_Games/addons/sounds/click.wav /usr/share/the64/ui/sounds/flip.wav I can make a option so you can have the popping sound but lower in volume if you want,so it don't overpower the music..?

Quick question.
I thought I read this somewhere, but wanted to see if it is true. Is it true that you can't save games or data from games if the games are launched from the carousel? I recall being able to save my character in the default carousel game "Temple of Apshai Trilogy", so I wanted to ask before I start making my own customized carousel of games most of which will have high score saving and even game data saving like RPGS, etc.
If you can't save data when launching a game from the carousel, then I'll just use the standard USB stick method and launch the games from the classic mode, even though I really like the carousel.
Thanks in advance for any info.

just updated it..Uploaded Moved saves folder to addon folder.. if you have saved games just move saves folder to addon folder to copy them over. Added flip sound back but at a lower volume, if you want the click sound its still there just have to enable it. Quick question. I thought I read this somewhere, but wanted to see if it is true. The games are snapshot files (VSF) so if you included the disk image in the VSF then I don't see why not. I always played games on the C64 from cassette so you could never save the game or hi scores.

Thanks in advance for any info. John When you launch a game from the carousel, it usually launches a Snapshop at a certain time - including how the disc was structured at THAT TIME. Meaning when you play a game, data will be saved to the virtual disk WHILE THE GAME RUNS, but when you leave the game without doing a new Snapshot (the save function of the C64Mini/Maxi itself), this modified disc will be lost. Next time when you launch from the carousel you are back at the beginning. For carousel games you need to use the save function of the Mini. If you really want to save the status in the .d64 file, you need to launch it in USB / classic mode.

You can add d64,d81,prg,tap,g64 images to the carousel too, not just snapshots(I use to use action replay to make snapshots of a game.) You need to remember is Vice that running on THEC64 so it's not original hardware it has limitations,I never known a game you can play on the c64 you can save it at that point,in the 80 the UK never had a 1541,you never saw them in shops, well I didn't only in the US did cause they could afford it, all software and games I used and my friend that had a C64 to used was loaded on a 1530 datassette, the only drive I saw was at school on a BBC Model B Micro Computer. I didn't get a drive until the late 90s when they were cheaper(the C64C stopped being built in 1990/1 I remember Capital Radio reporting it that Commodore was stopping all production on the C64, best selling home computer)I got a 1571 disk drive,I like it was 1996,most all games that are cracked are modified versions of the cassette games with hi score saver.Properly you are talking about text adventure games that I hate,When I was a kid say 12/13, I could not read or write,(not brillant now but I am Dyslexic, they didn't know what that was in 1984)I hated them and played only arcade games mainly, I liked games you could just play and not work out how to play it or have to read the instructions on how to play it. I like Adventure Games now but thats because they talk now and more like a film.Love them on PS4. I love Quantic Dream Games. Heavy Rain, Beyond and Detroit.

Any special game requests from anybody that I can look after during my long home office days? In case you're stuck at home and are feeling *very* bored, I've made a little list of games I'd like to see in the Carousel (all of them are single-disk games, I believe): Archon Burger Time Choplifter Decathlon Elite Frogger Arcade Gauntlet Hard'n'Heavy Ikari Warriors International Soccer Into the Eagle's Nest Jinks Knight'n'Grail Mayhem in Monsterland Mr. Do! Mr. Robot and his Robot Factory MULE Oils Well Operation Wolf Pac-Land Pac-Man Pac-Mania Paperboy Parallax Pirates! Revs+ RoboCop Scarabaeus Shinobi Short Circuit Space Taxi Spellbound Stunt Car Racer Terra Cresta Times of Lore Toki TRAZ Wonderboy X-Out Zaxxon Some of these (especially Archon, Elite, Pirates!) are true classics, of course. Would be nice to be able to play them on the TheC64 without having to fiddle with image files in Classic Mode.

BUT the modified D64 is NOT saved back to the carousel. Any game from the carousel launches from a predefined state and you can ONLY save your progress via the snapshot function.

TheC64 can't load tap files that have 2 sides too so Chase HQ side 1.tap, Chase HQ side 2.tap, only way is make the tap file one Tap file(the idea came from when I would load games from a C90 cassette thats longer like 90 minute tape so you could add games to it one after another),I did it with Chase HQ that added to the Carousel, had to covert side 1 and 2 to two wav files then use Cool Edit Pro to add them together then convert it back to a Tap file and it worked. I did it cause of the loading music but included a save to bypass it so you don't need to wait for it to load.. Alot of the games I added I have already on cassette that I play with my C64C...

Firstly, must say thanks to those involved in making the Carousel Games on USB facility, for me it's turned the C64 from something pretty good to something that is great. Same now for me re. Donkey Kong Jr. I'm finding that the T64 and D64 games I've added to the carousel don't load on the latest update of ver. 1.05, though they worked in previous versions. I get the message 'device not present error' on Jiffydos for T64 games and 'searching for *' on D64 games. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi everyone.
I've been busy converting my collection of C64 original game disks to g64 files over the last few weeks. Anyhow, I have a few further questions on the USB Carousel for the Maxi.
1. I understand the reason why games can't save from the carousel if they are in virtual snapshot files (aka .vsf), but what if a game on the carousel is launched like normal LOAD"*",8,1 and no virtual save state is used? Would the game then save properly in game without having to use the save state option of the console?
2. I was thinking about the idea of having multiple carousel collections on a single USB stick. What I mean is let's say I have a carousel setup for all my arcade games, then a separate carousel of all my RPGs, a third carousel of all my sports games, etc. Is there a way to have multiple carousels on a single USB stick, then just load the specific carousel I want to use? I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I thought it might be interesting and also allow us to have separate carousels based by game genre, or any other topic the user can think of.
3. I saw mention of this, but I'm not sure if it actually works, or works without issue. If I have .d81 files, I understand TheC64 cannot load them as d81 files, but if you rename the d81 to .d64, the file will work properly. Is this true?
Thanks, John

Not sure what is wrong, but I'm having a problem with the USB Carousel.
When I go to classic mode, I see the typical JiffyDOS v6.01 blue screen like we see on our original C64 computers.
When I type @ which should show the drive information, I get nothing. If I mount a g64 or d64, then either hit F1 to get a directory (JiffyDOS command) or even LOAD"$",8 the system just hangs. Has anyone else had this issue? Same thing if I try to load a disk via LOAD"*",8,1

No. The .d64/.g64 file in the ROM stays untouched. It is copied to RAM, changes during gameplay are made there, but it is never saved back to the ROM. 2. No idea, sorry. Most likely you would need several different firmwares for this. 3. There are circumstances where you can fake VICE into accepting a d81 by turning of True Drive Emulation. Once that is on you can't have a readable d81. Several folks have mentioned that looking for or creating an Easyflash .CRT version (there are tools for this but I have not tried them) is the better way to do this. I have not tried the .d81 path myself and currently do not have access to my mini to give it a real try.

Span,
When you get some time can you try loading your Carousel USB program on the Maxi, then go to classic mode and try loading a .g64 or .d64 image? I have been trying but as I mentioned in my above post, the system just hangs when I hit enter while using either of these commands. LOAD"$",8 or LOAD"*",8,1. I even tried using my own JiffyDOS files and get the same issue. I wiped out my USB Carousel install multiple times and reinstalled it from scratch, but still this issue is happening. Since the actual carousel doesn't allow saving, I'm trying to use the original aka classic mode to load my games from d64/g64 disk images, but something is not working. Earlier releases of the USB carousel worked fine, I even posted earlier in this thread when the original releases had some issues with JiffyDOS that I managed to resolve in the .sh file. Doing that required the disk drive to be working which it was, but now it simply locks up every time I try to load a game or directory.
Thanks, John

If you have JiffyDos enabled TAP(cassette) files don't work, on USB File loader or Carousel You can add them to the Carousel but as a snapshot and by saving the tap and rom images in it. Just tested a g64 file and JiffyDos can't load them(they hang),if you go back to USB loader it can't find any files on the USB too, I think its VICE 2.4..?? Weird groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/zoomfloppy-users/cqGXAh-NMBw sourceforge.net/p/vice-emu/bugs/1164/You have to load g64 files without activating the Carousel Games from USB or disable JiffyDos.

Span, Sorry but I don't quite understand what I need to do. I loaded the USB Carousel via the firmware update, then went into settings and told the system to boot in Classic Mode. I then shutdown the computer and restarted it. Once the system loaded back up, I again activated the USB carousel program via the firmware update. This again took me to the classic mode with the JiffyDOS logo on the top, so it loaded the proper USB carousel program. Then I mounted a d64 and tried to load it, but the system still just hangs there. Am I doing something wrong? Also, is there a reason why launching the USB Carousel Program no longer works in classic mode with JiffyDOS when it did in earlier versions of the program? Thanks, John
