PCUv 1.11 Newlly Added.. To 0 to G Gamelist.. A Nightmare On Elm Street The Game from 1989( I only added today so you might need to re download PCUv1.11 to get the game.) Added a new soundtrack to Favorites Gamelist Screen. Thanks spannernick. It is important that every time you make changes in PCU report the changelog ... it would even be interesting to do it in the initial post, with the date of the change in addition. It's a suggestion. OK thanks for the suggestion, I had to put the changelog at the bottom of first page.

Is there a way to change the order of the Gamelists? I'm probably not going to populate the Favourites list so it would be better for me and anyone else that doesn't need/want to use the favourites gamelist, to have it last in the order instead of first.

thanks for the file. Unbelievably it still doesn't work. Exactly the same, tries to load the games, I can see grogs revenge, beach head and beach head 2 then it freezes. This is so frustrating.
This will only work with PCUv1.11... Try this and copy it over start.sh on the root of your USB Stick the first start.sh file, you have to rename it start.sh or copy over the top of it and let me know if it gets it working, it should...?

I am enjoying THE64 Maxi more than I thought, and I am really intrigued but the PCU, but I do have the same issue as sham690, even with V 1.11 and the different start shell. Running on Firmware 1.3.2 I am wondering if there is a way we can better troubleshoot to try to indicate what can be the actual problem? Could it be something with the USB stick? I have been unpacking the exe by using Keka on Mac OSX, I dont know if that has something with it do? Could the location it freezes on the game (same place), give an indication on something we can try out?

I have tried 4 different USB keys and and same on all. Strange...

***Project Carousel USB by Spannernick*** RetroNuts on YouTube Orignal idea by FaberfoX, script by Spannernick and Fake Update by jj0, raxrip and cyanic Carousel Gamelist Covers by Franky-Byte (Load Carousel Games from USB Stick, with Carousel Gamelist Screens) JIFFYDOS and SID 8580 ADDED, New Soundtrack Now Included Languages now added, en,de,fr,es,it Version 1.11 released.. For THEC64 Mini/Maxi This is free for non commercial use, NOT to SELL or RESELL. Ploylab has copied this project so PLEASE do NOT buy.. TRUE BLUE Mini C64, this is free to download and use and always will be.. Thanks for your support..This is what the TRUE BLUE MINI C64 looks like.. Here is a video in English by bastichb64k, thanks man.. My latest episode of "How To?" Is a tutorial on adding games to the C64 Maxi carousel mode with the new Project Carousel USB method . Link below to video 👇 (I might add stuff to this from time to time where I forgot to add the info.. ) PCU is for 18 plus only, some of the games that are included are based on 80s horror films so Parental Guidance is recommended.
Leave Feedback on how it is for you and how you finding it, the only way I find out is if anyone likes it or click on LIKE Button to say thank you.. (its the thumbs up button on the top right of the post, just in case you didn't know..Â
New Carousel Gamelist Screens Update Released so you can hold more games in the Carousel now.
Make sure you in Carousel Mode on THEC64 Maxi before running PCU, If you boot into Classic Mode first make sure it booting into Carousel Mode.
This will change the location of the C64 Games from the firmware, the Carousel shows to the USB Drive/Stick(Thanks goes to FaberfoX for the idea). The idea was to have a way of running C64 Games from the Carousel from USB without touching the firmware, how I looked at it was, how would I do it and if I was a user, how would I want it to be. 1. Easy to use and add games easily too. 2. Easy way of copying it to my USB stick. 3. Make it not complicated to use and set up. 4. If I like it then you will. I use it all the time now, I never play C64 Games from my THEC64 Maxi Firmware any more, the other good thing about this is, you can use it on any THEC64 Mini/Maxi so if your friend has THEC64 Mini say, all you need to play your C64 games is your USB Stick when you go round there.. Plug it into theirs and run fake update and wola, you have your own set of C64 games on their THEC64 Mini. I hope you enjoy using this as much as I enjoyed making it, I hope you get hours of fun out of THEC64 Mini/Maxi now...  Well THEC64 MINI/MAXI needs a lift..  but not a Fork Lift like the Power Brick did.. I added a soundtrack because the music was very repetitive, I do like Matt Gray's music too, he made a lot of music for the C64, some of the C64 tunes are great and why not show them off, I love the music the C64 could do, as much as the Amiga's music, that brilliant too. I did it too so if you just want to just sit there and listen to them and take five..  . All 3 Carousel Gamelist Screens have there own soundtrack with different C64 game tunes on (Lucky I know how to edit sound files and mix them, I been using Cool Edit Pro for years..  I use to mix Amiga Music together and make them into mp3 tracks and use them as Ringtones so when someone would ring me, Turrcan would start playing on my phone..  This is the closes you get to something like Project Lunar thats on the Sega Mega Drive and are able to load games in Engage from a USB stick but you can only load games for the Commodore 64 or the Vic 20(THEC64 Maxi Only) in the Carousel and nothing is copied to the firmware, all the stuff is on the USB Drive/Stick, you just run a fake update from System Information page on THEC64 Mini or Maxi to activate PCU. PCUv1.11.exe is a 7-zip self-extracting archive file now. It has a fav folder now to add the games you use the most, make sure you have more than 6 games in there because if you don't it can freeze the Carousel. If you are using a older version of PCU then you need to remove it completely and copy the new version on the USB Stick. The games are in 3 folders now 0 to G, H to R and S to Z, it can hold up to 678 games in PCU and 226 games per Carousel Gamelist Screen(I can add more Carousel Gamelist Screens if you want and as many as you like, there is no limit to how many you can have, the idea came from The True Blue Mini C64. When you want to change Carousel Gamelist Screen just highlight the wrench icon and highlight "Load gamelist H to R ›","Load gamelist S to Z › or "Load gamelist 0 to G ›" to change gamelists(I have changed the System Information Page and made it reload a different games folder when you run the Fake Update)then highlight Open and the next Carousel Gamelist Screen will load. Games are in Carousel_Games/games folder...
Gamelist Favorites --> /0_fav/games Gamelist 0 TO G--> /0 to G/games Gamelist H TO R--> /H to R/games Gamelist S TO Z--> /S to Z/gamesThanks goes to Franky-Byte for the Carousel Gamelist covers, now you will know what gamelist your on.. Each folder has its own THEC64 Maxi Game Tool so you can run it from there (when the USB Stick is in your PC) and can Add C64 Games to that games folder(A to G, H to R or S to Z). Remember to ignore all warnings when closing it, its just if you were making a thec64-9.9.9.bin file to send to THEC64 firmware and you are not, once its close it will still remember what C64 games you have Added/Edited or Deleted. In each folder there is a folder called "Extra Games for File Loader" this folder is for C64 games that don't work on the Carousel and so you can play other games via USB File Loader or Media Access, PCU now changes the root on the USB stick so it can run each script for the Carousel Gamelist Screens to work. This has now got games included. Here is a video made by FrankyByte, Here is the new extensive tutorial for version 11.
On the weekend it will be translated into English ! Thanks FB.. (You can see what he it doing so without understanding what he is saying, can still be used as a guide.)
PCUv1.08 is still available if you need it. If you want to go back to the root of the USB stick while PCU is activated, there is a d64 file in the folder 0 to G called "You are in x to x folder.d64"(there is a d64 in every Gamelist folder) it really a empty txt file,(I used it so I could see what folder I was in)If you mount and load it in USB File Loader or Media Access, it will do nothing but when you back to USB File Loader or Media Access you should be in the root of the USB Drive(if you run any d64 file in USB File loader or Media Access while PCU is active if you go back to UFL or MA it will go back it the root of the USB Drive.) **How to put it on your USB Drive/Stick**Do not copy this over PCUv1.08 it will not work, remove PCUv1.08 first before putting PCUv1.10 on USB Drive, folder structure has been changed. I have change the name of the Carousel files now (the64 files) so it would be a good idea to remove PCUv1.9c first before copying this to your USB Drive/Stick. Download Folder HEREClick on PCUv1.11.exe in Download folder to download it. Click on PCUv1.10.exe to open it, Point it to your USB Drive(mine is L:\) press the Extract button to extract to that drive and wait for it to finish and its done now you can plug it into THEC64 Mini/Maxi. If you want to enable or disable things, edit the start.sh script on the root of the USB drive with Notpad++(this is what I use to edit it on my PC, Windows 10).if you want Jiffy-Dos 6 enabled. You could open the file with 7zip and copy the files only..(you can do this with PCUv108.zip too, to use Version 1.08) Files inside.. Carousel_Games start.sh theC64-9_9_91.bin to the root of your USB Drive/Stick. Plug the drive into your THEC64 Mini/Maxi, Make Sure you in Carousel Mode (THEC64 Mini Mode) on THEC64 Maxi before running the PCU then click the Wrench or Spanner.. icon and select "System Information" then press on Apply and wait for it to boot(it will take about 5 seconds) and you should see a black screen with "Project Carousel USB" logo then the Carousel with new C64 games will come up, Carousel Gamelist Screen should load, if you see Franky-Byte Gamelist Screen with "GAMES 0 - G" game screenshot then you are now in PCU, it now has about 480 C64 games included from True Blue Mini C64.. see screenshots below of info. Remember.. You can add other game as well by puting them in the folder called "Extra Games for File Browser" so if you want to play a game that you can't add to the Carousel cause it has 2 Disks. Each Carousel Gamelist Screen can hold about 226 games so about 678 games in 3 screens. Will be adding a Carousel Gamelist Screen Favorites soon so you can add your Favorite games to it that you play the most. Carousel Gamelist Screens ------------------------------ Each screen has its own soundtrack now Pictures were taken before Franky-Byte Gamelist Screens were added.(Will update them soon) 0 TO G H TO R S TO Z How to use THEC64 Maxi Game Tool with Project CarouselUSBit now included in the Carousel_Games folder, double click its .exe to run it from there when the USB stick is plugged in to your PC(you could add a shortcut to it on Windows to your desktop to make it easier to run) so you can add or change games in the games folder on the USB Stick, you do not need to use the Make FW button, just use Add or Edit buttons and the games will change or Add new C64 Games you add to the app and they will be added to the games folder, you can even delete games too using the Delete button. Vice folder has to be included, Vice is there so you can make snapshot files of the C64 Games you want to add(pressing the VICE button) you can even play the C64 games on the Carousel in the THEC64 Maxi Game Tool by clicking twice on its cover, to test to see if that game works OK, just click on one of the Covers of the C64 games. When adding or editing a game, when you close TheC64 Maxi Game Tool it will come up with a Warning saying if you close it, it will not save the changes to the games its added or edited, thats just if you making a firmware update to send to THEC64 Mini/Maxi so please ignore the warning. DO NOT press MAKE CFW Button no need too.(it adds the games or edits them straight away to the Games folder so changes happen instantly.)After you finished what you want to do, Close THEC64 Maxi Game Tool then Eject the USB Stick so you don't corrupt it, you have to close THEC64 Maxi Game Tool first otherwise you can't Eject the USB Stick. Here is a picture of TheC64 Maxi Game Tool reading from the games folder (this is a old picture before Carousel Gamelist Screen was made)on USB Stick(K:)Â
THEC64 Maxi Game Tool Reading from the Carousel_Games folder.Changelog May 2020 New Options added to the script..All Options are in the first Start script(start.sh) thats on the root of the USB Drive stick. How to add a Game ControllerYou can use the SDL2 Game tool(info on there site on how to use the sdl2 game tool) on windows or Linux to add a controller but the GUID is wrong on Windows. See the difference, this part needs adding 03000000a30c000025000000 11010000 its missing at the end, "00000000" at the end is wrong. When using the SDL2 Game tool on Windows, you need the last 8 digits(numbers) at the end "11010000" and paste it over 8 zeros digits at the end of the GUID then you have the right GUID for Linux. Worked it out from this post... thec64community.online/post/3116Once you have configured the controller you get this.. Copy it into the gamecontollerdb.txt at the end of the file to the version you are using of THEC64,(Mini or Maxi) you have to change platform:Windows to platform:Linux and platform might be near the beginning of the line so it has to be moved to the end, like it is in the line above. gamecontollerdb.txt are in the folder "Carousel_Games\Options\Joysticks". under folders "thec64mini" and "thec64maxi", Now save the gamecontollerdb.txt, now you can test it and see if you controller works. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 25 June 2020 PCUv 1.11 Released with Favorites Gamelist Screen. 26 June 2020 Stuff Added.. To 0 to G Gamelist.. A Nightmare On Elm Street The Game from 1989(I only added today so you might need to re download PCUv1.11 to get the game.) Added a new Soundtrack Wav to Carousel Gamelist Screen Favorites.

it sounds like to me members are having problems loading PCU using a Mac. PCU has been made on a PC so all the files are zipped up on Windows 10. I zip it up with 7zip(its really a 7z file) so look for a version of 7zip for mac to unzip the exe file, it can be unziped with 7zip. I might make a .img file of my USB stick(might be a good idea) so you have a clone of the USB stick with PCU on that I use(it might help), using Win32 Disk Imager, that you use to copy images to a SD Card for RPI3/RPI4 so it will be like a RPI OS image. But you will need a USB stick that 1.86 GB or more cause mine is less than 2 GB in size, you only need to use a small USB Stick, snapshots and d64 images don't use a lot of space. I use a old USB stick, it was made like 15 years ago when 1.86 GB was a lot then..

sham690 OSX does create a lot of hidden files on the USB. I found a program called BlueHarvest, used the trial version to clean out the hidden OSX files, and voila: IT WORKS!

That was not me though, I dont know why it did not work on the Windoze laptop, maybe the hidden files on the USB was still present from use on OSX, or that it was plugged into OSX sometime in between?

It doesn’t seem to work on my C64 Maxi. I downloaded the file onto my Mac and uncompressed onto a FAT32 USB which I have used before on the Maxi. It detects the usb and I can load the Project carousel but after the black screen with the initial message the carousel only half loads. It displays games in the carousel up to Beach Head 2 but the next game (in the center) is blank and the preview screen is also blank. I can then not do anything and it appears completely hung. The only thing I can do is reboot.
I’ve tried reformatting the USB, downloading the carousel again and even removing beach head 2 and the game after on the usb but it still fails in exactly the same way.
anybody have any ideas?

That's what I downloaded and the files seem ok. I'll try the whole process in a Windows VM and see what happens however all I am doing on the Mac is dowloaading and then copying the files to a USB file
I'll try on Windows and see what happens.

ah its the exe then and 7zip, I properly remove that in the next version and just keep it as a zip file, I was trying to make it easier for people but not realizing I was making it more harder for Mac users... (This is why FEEDBACK is important) but will be making a copy of my USB stick with Win32 Disk Imager so all you need to do is copy it with Win32 Disk Imager or Balena Etcher or a program thats available for Mac so that way you will have all the right files and no outside influence on them like what Mac dose with it like adding .DS files. It will mean that the size of the USB partition with be 1.86 GB(2 GB) so you will have to make it bigger with a partition program if you want to use the rest of the space on it or get a USB Stick just for using PCU, don't think you can get USB Stick that are now 2 GB anymore, my USB Stick is blue and is a Integral 2GB USB Stick, I didn't even know it could copy USB Stick until I copied the True Blue Mini C64 USB Stick.. This is what mine looks like.. You can get a 8 GB version of my USB Stick from Amazon here.

ok - so it works now. Strangely when I formatted the USB on the windows image it didn't recognise it at all on the C64 and so I then formatted it on the MAC and copied the files via windows. This worked.
Thanks

New in v1.12.
You can now hide the Carousel Gamelist Screen Favorites by disabling it in the start.sh script in the root of the USB Stick to stop it starting up first and enabling Carousel Gamelist Screen O to G in the start script in S to G folder to hide it.
There are HELP README.txt files included to help you.
It available now in the download folder PCUv1.12.zip and PCUv1.12_USB_STICK_IMAGE_FOR_MAC_PC.img file thats 1.86 GB, a copy for my USB Stick.
If you have any problems, post them here and I help you with anything you don't understand or have a problem with.
Enjoy

All uploaded now..

This is fantastic. Sorry to ask something that has already been answered but just wanted to make sure, this makes no permanent changes the TheC64 Maxi and doesn't effect you using future Firmware updates? Also, does it interfere temporarily with the current setup of the unit CJM? Thanks I have the opposite question (sorry if this has been answered somewhere, didnt find it ... I want to make the changes permanent, so its there everytime I turn it on. Is this possible?

Post by spannernick on Jun 29, 2020 9:34:32 GMT
No you can't make it permanent, and no this don't change anything in the firmware,I did look into it and when you run the script from inside the firmware it stops USB File Browser and Media Access working so you can't see anything on the USB Stick only the games on the Carousel, I didn't go with that idea cause not all games work on the Carousel. Might be a good idea if I make a Q&A for PCU..

It seems you can not Edit or Delete half of the games with the MaxiGameTool.exe
Example
click on 10th Frame , the Edit /Delete buttons are greyed out. same with the next game 1942 but the next 1 along 43 the Edit / Delete buttons are working ? But then the next game along 1985 they are greyed out and this goes on all the way down the entire list of games 0 to G , same thing with H to R and same with S to Z
im using 112 and also tried 110a same thing happens
im on Windows 7 64bit
thanx for ur time

Also, does it interfere temporarily with the current setup of the unit CJM?Thanks No, if you have them in a folder with your game, you can still load them but will have to put them in the "Extra Games for File Loader" to load them up from USB File Browser or Media Access, so say your in 0 to G then you need to put the games and CJM files in the "Extra Games for File Loader" folder in 0 to G folder to be able to load them.
