So i updated to the latest firmware from 1_3_x now i cant load games from the loader.
Recreation steps
Using theC64_MAX NTSC edition.
1. Be on or have upgraded to firmware 1_4_2 with a theC64max from the previous Snow build.
2. by default load to C64 Basic.
3. Typing is fine at this point.
4. use the hot keys "Shift + ←" from the maxi keyboard to Open the loader.
5. Navigate using the maxi keyboard via "U-H-J-K" select any Disk image with "Spacebar".
6. use the hot keys "Shift + ←" from the maxi keyboard to Close the loader.
7. type anything.
8. Notice at this point the input is corrupted on screen from C64MAX keyboard input..
Posting a video of 3x attempts and same results.

It showing the characters that are on the side of the keys on the keyboard, it not corrupted its acting like shift lock is on, maybe cause your pressing shift, if you press shift and hold it and then press "S" key you get a heart, you will get them characters, press shift or shift Lock to see if it change to letters. is the Shift + ← new, I have never used it, I play around more with the Linux side of it then the C64 side of it..

it not corrupted its acting like shift lock is on Yes can confirm When I press "Shift + ←" the system goes into a paused state as it enters the loader program menu. As I press "Shift + ←" again to leave the menu program the shift button is still thinks its pressed from the loader going into a paused state.. no im certainly not hitting the shiftlock. after exiting the loader program if i press "shift" once it makes it back to normal. this was not the case before I upgraded the FW.

mmmm, it looks like they never stopped the shift key from been active when you use the shortcut so the emulator thinks you want characters to be show on the screen, they need to turn the key off when the shortcut keys are pressed so the emulator don't see the shift key been pressed and held down, when you press "Shift + ←" its acting like you have pressed the "Shift Lock". the shortcut could mapped to it in the emulator so its a bug you found cause it not doing what it meant to do.
I have marked this post as Bug: and made it a sticky.

Mine is doing this too. I just came here looking for others seeing the same problem. I found a post about someone playing Elite having problems, and pressing SHIFT curing it - as if SHIFT had already been pressed. SO far I've tried that 3 or 4 times and it's worked. I have same problem and it's very annoying. I hope, that the new year's firmware upgrade will fix it.

Try tris: 1. From BASIC press SHIFT+"left arrow", 2. Push button 4 on joystick to return to BASIC, 3. Press 'S'. Heart appears. 4. Press left SHIFT to fix "auto-shift" effect.

If this is still an issue for you, please try an external USB keyboard (the mappings are detailed here: retrogames.biz/thec64-mini/keyboard) and let me know if you have the same results. Thanks, Shaun.

Yes this happens on TheVic20 if you use the shortcut then button 4 on the joystick. Minor bug, just press shift to correct it.

I'm hit by this bug every time I use the C64... My main usage scenario is playing text games, and this issue is really irritating. I often save states to prevent random deaths and other things common in text adventures, and every time I go back I have to remember to hit SHIFT again. I don't always remember to do that as I'm immersed in the game, and I end up getting hit by the bug. It really breaks the immersion and degrades the experience... :/ Would you guys be able to fix this in the next firmware update? Pretty please?

It's not just the SHIFT key. Apparently every key that was held down before entering the loader menu via Shift + ← will be erroneously remembered by the BASIC Interpreter. Try this on the THEC64 (full-size), I am on firmware v1.6.1.
REM ENABLE AUTO-REPEAT FOR ALL KEYS POKE 650,128
(The following steps also work for alphabets other than R)
Hold down the R key, you should see the letter R auto-repeat on the screen like on a modern computer. Without letting go of R key, press Shift + ← to enter the loader menu, let go of the R key, then Shift + ← again to close the loader.
The letter R should continue auto-repeating even without you touching the keyboard. Pressing any letter other than R will print that letter momentarily, followed by more endless auto-repeats of R. RUN/STOP + RESTORE won't stop the endless auto-repeat. The only way to stop the endless auto-repeat is to tap R once.
