Just wondering if anyone has tried the c64 usb software yet that lets you add the games to the carousel via firmware update. If this works does anyone have plans to release a vic 20 carousel pack?

I’ve been trying the multi carousel usb loader. I’ve tried adding the game blitz to the vic 20 directory. Everything is working. I’ve made the snapshot on vice and on thevic20 itself and put it through the c64 firmware maker program. Everything shows on the carousel but when I run blitz it just flashes on the main screen then goes to basic. I have tried other options and still I haven’t had any luck. It is because it’s a tape game? If I make the snapshot on thevic20 and load it that loads fine. I can’t understand what is wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Are you on about THEC64 Maxi Game Tool...? If so then it should work the same, the Carousel is the same as THEC64 Maxi but plays VIC 20 games only in the USB Loader instead of C64 games. Its post is here... thec64community.online/thread/482/thec64-maxi-game-toolWhen making the snapshot did you tick the 2 boxes at the bottom, If I remember right one box is for copying the image of the game in the snapshot..? Project Carousel USB works in THE VIC 20, it turns it into THEC64 Maxi...

I’ve added to them and taken games off the original vic 20 carousel and got a file to work. The vic 20 seems to have trouble loading .tap files if you put them on the carousel. Ive tried snapshotting them and the snapshot will load from the folder but once in the carousel it doesn’t work.

I have been adding a number of VIC-20 games to my VIC-20 carousel the last few days: Gorf, Skramble!, SkyHawk, Choplifter, Jelly Monsters, Q*Bert, JetPac, Multitron and Spiders of Mars. Using crt, prg and tap files, all work perfectly by using snapshots in the Vice version from TheC64MaxiGameTool (don't forget selecting both attach options when saving the snapshot). And remember to match the PAL/NTSC setting in the carousel with the one used in the Vice snapshot.
Most of the work goes into making the screenshots and the cover art. The problem with the VIC is that its pixel aspect ratio is 1.5:1, Vice saves screenshots (alt-c) with an aspect ratio of 2:1. They often won't fit inside 320x200. For the correct aspect ratio you have to scale down horizontally to 75%. But then the image quality suffers (I use bilinear filtering, but it still doesn't look great). If you could use images with a resolution of 640x400, then you could use pixels of size 3x2.
But some VIC game screenshots don't even fit inside 200 pixels vertically (Jelly Monsters, for instance).
