Just joined this forum today, have not had time to read through messages yet, I do hope this has not been asked yet, or too often, but here goes
Using a modern PC, Is there a way to create a theC64 BASIC program as an ordinary ASCII text file (yes, we still use that term), and store that to an SD card, then have theC64 be able to load it? (And of course actually run it...)
It would be much easier to draft such programs, BASIC and ASM in modernPC editors, then import them to theC64, but is this possible?
A utility that can simply take any such BASIC program as text file and store it in appropriate native theC64 SD card format would be very convenient!
Otherwise, I can not see myself suggesting that theC64 is a viable platform to explore classic C64 BASIC/ASM programs.
My other question is this: I am a huge fan of the C128 legacy... C128 BASIC 7.0 had many improvements over C64 BASIC 2.0, Z80 and 6502 processors. I am aware VICE emulator has a C128 mode, but have not fully explored how well that supports BASIC 7.0 graphics and sound routines.
My question is simply : Would there every be an update to theC64 to fully emulate the C128 BASIC 7.0; or perhaps introduce a "FULLY" SUPPORTED Commodore 128 BASIC 7.0 unit? This is not a trivial question since BASIC 7.0 had so many improvements, and advancements, it is a serious upgrade to the "rigorous/tedious" means by which C64 BASIC must use POKEs/etc. to perform graphics, etc.
Thanks. RadSurfer.
