Hi,
I'd share with you this MOD from my colleague Edu Araba to add an extra USB on The C64 Maxi. The idea is to convert TheC64 Maxi keyboard to an USB keyboard to use it with a Raspberry Pi, Myst, etc... But I'm so sorry because it's in Spanish!!!
Regards,

It need converting into English and then posted here(I don't mean just a link, I have done it for you ,in English with pictures on the post then at the end link to the site where it came from), I have seen it before, when looking for picture of the C64 Maxi USB Hub. Hello friends, Before the end of the year I will take the advantage and publish my last article. This time the possibility of converting the keyboard of the new C64 MAXI to USB. This phrase has a trick , since the keyboard itself is already USB but does not have a connector for it. Likewise, the C64 MAXI has a usb HUB (which comes to replace the DB9 connectors of the original c64). This HUB can also be used to have more USB connectors. This modification is necessary especially if we want to put another device that supports USB keyboards, for example RASPBERRY PI, MIST, PC or a MAC MINI, in short, a host that supports usb keyboards. C64 MAXI The C64 MAXI has something that I like, I already mentioned it in forums a few days ago, having this possibility, that of converting the keyboard to USB, it is not necessary to damage an original C64 to modify it and put a Keyrah adapter, as I did some time ago. time with my C128 and C64. Apart from buying an original C64 and this one, we will save almost half the price because the MAXI already offers a good finish, even for the most purist. Honestly when buying the C64 MINI I regretted a little, but with this, having this possibility, the truth is that the price is not bad for what it offers. Necessary materials To make this modification we will need: 1 strip of simple 2.00mm pins. These components are easily available at any electronics store, ebay or aliexpress. The modification For this modification, we can do it in two different ways, the first is to convert only the keyboard to USB leaving the hub completely unusable. The second is taking advantage of the USB HUB but conditioning one of its ports to connect the USB keyboard (I have used the second option). We will start with the most "complex" option, the second. The first thing we should know is the distribution of the pins. C64 MAXI motherboard Second modification HUB board pinout To modify the HUB plate, we must do it in two steps, first we must add a microusb adapter insert. The next thing is to add the keyboard connector to one of the pins of the available USB ports, I have used the one furthest from the power button. You need to have a 2.00 pin strip of pin spacing. Once the modification is made, we put the board in place and connect our keyboard to the pins that we have soldered. Finally we will connect the microusb cable from our insert to the host, be it a PI, PC, MIST, etc. e voila! we have a keyboard and usb hub. First modification For this modification, we will only need 4 2.00mm pins and the same microusb insert that we used in the previous explanation. In the following image you can see what the modification consists of. As you can see, the only thing we do is "adapt" one connection format to another. I hope this little guide has been helpful. Remember, if you use these steps or mention them on your channel, don't forget to cite the source. Happy entry to 2020 . Salu2. Edu. This will help you if you want to use the Raspberry PI inside the C64 Maxi's case plus still use the C64 Maxi too, all then you will need is a HDMI switcher, to switch from the RPI to THEC64 Maxi, then you could play Amiga Games that way..

I want to put a Raspberry Pi inside my maxi case and dual boot either board. Just trying to figure out what might work. I've found this passive auto HDMI switcher to put inside the maxi: www.bunnings.com.au/antsig-3-way-hdmi-switch_p4360492I'm hoping both boards are powered using the same voltage, so I can share the power supply and run it through a toggle switch that I can mount somewhere on the case.

I'm a little confused by the previous post (the one following yours) by drhoon: I'm hoping both boards are powered using the same voltage, so I can share the power supply and run it through a toggle switch that I can mount somewhere on the case Let me fix that for you, especially now that it's almost a full year later: For a start, www.tomsguide.com/best-picks/cheap-hdmi-switchers-ranked-best-worst Tom's has links and prices from Walmart and as well as Amazon. Most of these switchers are meant to be connected outside boxes, and/or require an external power supply, but I bet you could put #2 Kinivo 301BN inside the Maxi case. #1 J-Tech Digital is much too big with 4 inputs, but it has an IR remote. Although Tom's claims it can be found under $30, presently it's $35 at Amazon and the other large retailers, Great if you have other consoles or such that you want to connect to the same screen. Other Amazon choices include the "Avedio Links" 3-port switcher, it's under $18 and presently Amazon is offering a coupon as well. The Fosmon HD8024 2-Port HDMI switch www.amazon.com/dp/B00LFX1UDM/ref=emc_b_5_t has great ratings, checked with Fakespot for "A" quality. Looks small enough.I don't want to recommend any more without more experience trying to use these switches.

Hi! Thanks a lot for this for this info. Based on this post, I found a different solution, which allows you to use the existing micro-usb connector to plug the C64 Maxi to a USB host (e.g. a PC) and use it as a USB keyboard, or to connect a usb power source and use it as the C64 Maxi.
It's simple, though hard to implement since you have to solder directly to the Micro USB board connector pads, which are tiny. So only try this mod if you have: - Good magnifying glasses
- A thin soldering tip
- Good and thin tweezers
- Kynar wire wrap wire 30 awg
- Stable pulse
The mod: You need to connect pads 2 & 3 of the micro-USB connector (the 2nd and 3rd pads of the micro-usb away from the HDMI) to the back side of the 2 middle pins of the keyboard connector, all in the main board. Thats it. The tricky part is soldering the wire to the micro-usb port. I recommend first to tin the wrap wire with solder, then, using a good curved tweezer, to place the wire exactly on top of the pad, and then apply the soldering iron. It takes more time to prepare everything and find a comfortable way of placing the wire exactly on top of the pad, that the actual soldering, which takes only 1 second.
I attach 2 pictures, hope they are helpful.. Thanks

And what is the USB cable that's show plugging into it, and where does it come from? Thanks.

And what is the USB cable that's show plugging into it, and where does it come from? Thanks. The idea is so you can use THEC64 as a USB Keyboard so you can use its keyboard on another computer like a PC/Apple or another ARM device by soldering a USB Cable inside it on it board or on THEC64 USB Hub, the board that has the Power button and 3 USB Ports on the right side of THEC64 and then you plug it into the computer(PC) like you would if you were using a USB Keyboard so turning into one but still be able to use it with THEC64 Carousel and its firmware. The 4 pin that you see plugging into the USB 4 pin thats connected to the last USB Port on THEC64 USB Hub is the cable thats coming from THEC64 Keyboard, its so it see it when you plug the USB Mini cable in to THEC64 USB Hub and then into another computer, because its using THEC64 USB Hub as a 3 port USB Hub but 2 USB Ports will only work while THEC64 Keyboard is plugged in to it because the last one is used for THEC64 Keyboard so can not be used for something else while its 4 pin is plugged into it. I would like to find a way of doing this by software only and not having to mod the hardware and by using the USB Mini port or USB port on the back of THEC64, its possible to do this kind of thing with the Capcom Home Arcade(its a Control Panel Console, it looks like a Control Panel from a Arcade Cabinet, like a Pandora Box) that uses THEC64 board inside it but uses different firmware, you can use its Two Arcade Joysticks on a PC by switching it to that mode so its only a software mod not hardware mod. I hope this clears it up a bit for you...
