So, now weeks and weeks after teases for a new Alien game on modern consoles they finally revealed... a mobile game The place I read up on it was over at rockpapershotgun.com where they pointed out similar thoughts to my own; Alien: Blackout is, its site explains, a game where “Using only the space station’s limited power supply to operate a holographic map, surveillance cameras, and motion tracker, [Ripley must] attempt to remain hidden and protect [her] crew from the perfect hunter.” It’s a description which made me think of the 1984 Alien game straight away. Then I saw the trailer and realised oh, it also looks a bit like Five Night’s At Freddys with an alien rather than robots possessed by the ghosts of murdered children. Five Nights At Weyland-Yutani’s.
Now fortunately for me, being a great big Alien nerd. I already knew about the original and have been playing around with it recently. And by hell is it a great little game. Incredible atmosphere considering the minimal graphics. And that title music! Unfortunately getting a scan of the manual has eluded me so far the wiki www.c64-wiki.com/wiki/Alien gives a basic rundown the best way of reading the manual I have found is this video which goes through the pages at the beginning. Enjoy! Attachments:ALIEN1.T64 (28.26 KB)

This was always in my top 10 lists for BEST Alien-type games of all time! Very obscure, even for the pyratez and crakkerz. I only beat it once back in '85. Still, great atomos for a minimal game! To this day, it's being discovered: paulemozplaysagameaday.blogspot.com/2009/04/alien-commodore-64.html(Ok, ok, so it's from 2009! So, shoot me!) ;D

I still haven't managed to beat it. I actually found out about it via Nostalgia Nerd when he reviewed Organism ( ). I only managed to find it being hosted on a couple of sites. Even c64.com doesn't have it. Also, if you're an Alien fan you should absolutely check out Organism. My only real complaint is that it can get a tad repetitive and in the end it's actually simpler to outrun the Ali-ehh-Organisms AI rather than stand and fight.

Yes, it's a pretty good game, for sure. It was just released in early 2018, so it's not made it's way into the C64 game databases. I haven't been able to beat the game yet, either. But, like you, I do find that it does get tedious when played for a while. So, I've been playing it in shorter rounds, using the save states of the Mini (and before that on VICE). However, I do still like to play on my actual C128, which is why I wish games like Organism had save-states in it.

Yeah. The save states are a god send for Organism. All a bit too easy to get yourself killed off and lose progress by mistake. Especially when you wander through a room full of eggs and spend the entire time getting essentially stun locked to death. But short burst are absolutely the way to play. My first run through I played with it for a good 40 minutes and quickly realized that despite it's good ideas, nice design and lovely soundtrack it's a bit of a one trick pony.

Yeah without save-states I probably would've played it once and that be it. It's a game I've been chipping my way through a little bit at a time, just discovered that collecting crew increases your firepower after a certain amount.

Does it? I haven't hit that point yet obviously. That'll help motivate me a little. Was finding those lower levels a little troublesome. That'll be something to look forward to, being able to fight back more ably when running away isn't an option will be nice.
