Hi guys! I’ve formatted my USB so to start over with 1.7.2, I had been using 1.4 something but stopped using the maxi for a while and now I’m trying to get back at it.
Formatted to FAT32, installed the ALL IN ONE pack, and then used the windows app to copy my games carousels (safely stored on my PC prior to formatting) into the USB, all is good up to there, the usb is recognized and I can launch the fake firmware thingy so next time I restart I get the RGL and the PCU logos but then the fun commences:
- the RGL sound is heard TWICE like doubled, with less than a second in between each of the chimes; the carousel shows up after a while and again, after less than a second the screen seems to repeat itself; I see the firmware games in the carousel, browsing the games you can hear the movement sound effect doubling, etc… it’s like the system is being run twice! So weird! But it doesn’t end there: - I tried getting into the Options panel with menu button+right fire button and the options screen is all broken, navigation on it breaks the menu itself, it’s impossible to use. - I never got to see the other carousels, CONTROL+F keys seem to just restart the system.
Anyone had something like this going on? Thank you!

I am looking in to it now and see why its doing it, its sounds like firmware carousel is loading to quick so 2 carousels are loaded at the same time so you are getting double the sound.

It seems to have been fixed after formatting the usb stick with Rufus and starting all over.
Or it might be that I installed the standard game pack? Unsure.
Now there’s so much information to learn about the new features… for instance I’m at the “which Carousel” options screen; argent, 4all, Amora, ares…. What to pick? I think a need a step by step guide if you guys can point me in the right direction, these forums have too much information and it’s not clean when I’m reading stuff about the latest 1.7.2 version which I’m using or it is older, etc.
Thank you so much!!

I didn’t get to try this one yet!! Ok, same issue, my steps: 1. Reformatted the usb stick with Rufus, recommended settings MBR, Fat32, 4096 cluster size. 2. Installed your 1.7.2 version that I just downloaded you recommended from this thread. 3. Copied one carousel folder to the Games folder using windows explorer. 4. Turned my THEC64 Maxi on, plugged the USB stick at the rear port, it's detected properly, went to Settings - System information - execute fake firmware thing so to load up PCUAE.
5. Machine restarts, I see the RGL logo, then the PCUAE logo, then THIRTY SECONDS black screen wait and then I get to the carousel, apparently the firmware's with double interactions (double sound, double everything, accesing the Options menu is all broken...).
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you A

I second the motion that there needs to be a step by step simple guide to installing it, complete with getting and installing the game packs because I guess that isn't included with it now. I've been holding off on getting the latest version because I've been waiting for somebody to do that guide. My apologies if it's been done and I just didn't see it.

Have you tried it in the other USB Port, I don't use the back port cause I use Gadget Mode for it and use one of the side ports to boot PCUAE, and I use a sd card and sd card reader, I worked out that if you only change the sd card to add more space you do not change the reader so its still using the same usb device so THEC64 see it as the same device not a different one cause I have change to a different the USB Stick. It not doing it on mine, PCUAE ok fine for me.... very weird.

Ok I followed the step by step guide and NOW it's working. Turned OFF autoboot and the firmware script and back ON just in case. Even tho I had reset the machine to factory settings and formatted the USB stick, I still kept getting that Autoboot and Script were ON, weird. So both OFF and then back to ON just in case.
The firmware mode showed up even when I HAD a folder within the Games folder, I had to manually select it from the Carousel Gamelist picker (Menu + Left trigger, as the key combination CTRL+SHIFT+F7 was taking me to the Options Menu).
I still have some issues: 1. Entering the Options Menu works fine, but when I exit it and select to go back to the PCUAE Carousel OR do any action that requires a reset (say, opt for no sound when browing the games in the carousel) the machine restarts, the carousel is shown, BUT!!! the first item selected is a Black cover image with no data and the machine is frozen, totally stuck, no joystick control, no sound, no nothing. So I have to hard-restart it.
2. After the restart, I get to PCUAE firmware Mode (even with a folder in the Games folder) and I successfully used the Menu button + Left trigger to change the Carousel Gamelist to the games folder I copied, but the first time I used the picked gamelist carousel the screen was blinking every once in a while and when browsing left or right, weird. The blinking stopped only when I started a game; back at the carousel (exiting the game) had no more flickering. I saw this behavior once. I'll check next switching carousels to see if the problem persists. I made videos and screenshots of this but I don't see a way to upload them here. I could do that somewhere else if needed.
Thanks for all your help!
About to test the Atari mode now!

Thanks for all your help! About to test the Atari mode now! In Carousel_Games/Games folder there is a file called carousel_gamelist_loader.sh, it should have code in it that sees if there is any games in the Games folder then load PCUAE Mode not Firmware Mode if you have added a folder in there with games in it. Try this and replace carousel_gamelist_loader.sh with it and see if that works. carousel-gamelist-loader.sh (11.87 KB) When you are pressing CTRL+SHIFT+F7 are you pressing RIGHT SHIFT..?, it only works on LEFT SHIFT so it should be CTRL+LSHIFT+F7, the script can only do keys combos in a line so see the LSHIFT and RSHIFT as 2 keys so not one key, they are 2 separate keys, how it works is you press CTRL and it see it held down then waits for the next key to be held down so LSHIFT and so on so, in a series, a line of keys so like a gate each key you press opens that gate to the next key until all are held down and all gates are open then it does the action so loads Carousel Gamelist Loader(picker). I could make it work with RSHIFT but would have to make another script and run it in the background, the more scripts in the background the slower the key combo keys take to do the action so the longer you will have to hold the keys down for it to do it. It sounds like PCUAE might be having a problem creating the flag files on the USB Stick it needs to tell it what to do and what mode it meant to be in, if so then its down to the USB Stick, it might not like it, its a guess from where you keeps seeing Autoboot and Script were ON, it didn't remove it flag file to tell its off, when it should of. Can you start PCUAE then once it booted up a mode then shutdown and then look in a folder on root of the USB Stick called logs and can you tell me what's in that folder, I only need the names of the files in there, they tell me what parts loaded ok...?
