Hi all, I found a video on youtube that showed how to load multi disk games but that was with the original firmware where you had to rename the file to THEC64-drive8.d64.
How do multi disk games work with the new loader? For example, I downloaded AD&D Pool of Radiance and the filenames look like this:
POOLOFR0.D64 POOLOFR1.D64 etc.
Is this ok or is there another naming convention?
For this exact game you will need to create two folders (e.g. named as 'Disk 1' and 'Disk 2') and after that you will need to put each file to correct folder, but after that, you must to rename these files in the same way. In that case after placing them in that two folders accordingly, rename that two files as 'POOLOFR.d64'. Thanks to the same name of that two files, the Mini will treat them as the same game and when the game will prompt for disk change, then you will need to save the game in that moment, exit the game and go back to menu of c64 Mini. After that start this game from folder named 'Disk 2' and you will see that you will be able to load on it save state from file located in 'Disk 1' folder. After that you will be able to continue this game with Disk 2 attached. This scenario may look difficult from my manual, but you'll see that in practice this is quite easy and comfortable. I think that current way for multidisciplinary support on the 64 mini is sufficient. Furthermore make sure that you will run multidisciplinary games with accurate disk option to avoid possible issues with reading the file.

indeed you need to make a repertory on your usb support (key or sd card) for the second disk (one for each new disk if there's more than 1) with the second file the SAME name that the first ..ex:
name POOLOFR0.D64 just POOLOFR.D64, put it to the root of your usb key, the rename POOLOFR1.D64 the same-->POOLOFR.D64, and put this one (second in fact) in sub-reportory (for exemple name it "second disk") etc..
to run the game: launch the first POOLOFR.D64 from the root of the usb key, when the program ask the second disk, save your game with the save option of the mini.Quit the game.Go to the second file POOLOFR.D64 in the sub-reportory (that you can name "disk2" for exemple).Launch the file, then load your previous saved game from disk1.proceed on the game as asked (press any key or fire or whatever).understood?
on mine C64mini it always work perfectly.you eventually can ad the AD (accurate disk option) on each file in case of the game dn't launch (setting the fastloader off diretly from the file) that give : POOLOFR_AD.D64
the thing you need to remember witch the new loader is that you can't have two file of different name on the same root of the usb for the same program otherwise you can't do the saving option for the game (a bit tricky to understand I know)
But in case it still don't work try to search the web for .crt file of your game (cartouche format), no problem of disk swapping , for exemple Zac mc kraken and Maniac Mansion can be found on .crt format and work perfectly!
