Hi folks, just wondering if anyone out there has a mini compatible version of Wasteland? Been trying to locate one, but currently being hampered by multiple files and more often than not, simply not loading. Is there a version that I'm able to obtain that's a single image? Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

i might remember wrong, but i think wasteland was one of those titles that didnt work before the floppy code rewrite (which was after 2.4). its a bit tricky to make it work too without the manual, you first have to create a "game disk" from the menu, then you can use that one to start a game. ie without a lot of diskswapping -> no dice

Ah well. It's nice to get a bit of info anyway. And I suppose I can always play it on my regular PC anyway. Just would have been fun to have it there with everything else. Thanks

Wasteland also requires the use of the keyboard for it's game controls. So, you would definitely need a USB keyboard plugged in to the Mini to play it. A good portion of the story elements are only available in the manual, as well. Without the manual, chances of completing the game are pretty low.

Give this a try.... Wasteland Mini (zip)There are two folders in this zip file. Put the wasteland_AD folder in the hidden .THEC64SAVE folder, on your USB device. The other folder, named Wasteland, can be put anywhere on your USB drive. To play the game on the C64 mini, go into the Wasteland folder (where ever you put it on your USB device) and then go into the folder called Game1. Run the disk image, wasteland that you will find in the Game1 folder. The C64Mini will try to load the game, but you will see the error: ?FILE NOT FOUND That's okay. Now open up the Save/load game option for the Mini and restore the first saved game you will find there. You should be off and running. At least, this works for me. Make sure you have a USB keyboard plugged in, as you won't get far without it. As for how to play the game, well, I'll leave trying to find a game manual up to you. I also can't guarantee these disk images will entirely work. I've only played for about a half hour on the Mini. But, so far, the game has been playing fine. Also be aware that, in order to get the game to run, I had to use the "Accurate Disk" setting. So be patient, the loading of different locations is a bit slow. Good luck!

I will certainly give this a go once my kids are in bed and report back. Keyboard isn't a problem. Have one hooked up for text adventures and BASIC. I also have the manual that comes with the GOG version. I'm assuming that will suffice. I'll have to grab it and upload it to this post for anyone else that may want it.

Yep. It worked!! The only hitch I had was that after I tried to load the game it would boot me back to BASIC. Then it was just a matter of reloading the save and it would be up and running. And here's a reference card for anyone who wants it. mocagh.org/ea/wasteland-refcard.pdf

Fantastic! I'm glad it worked for you. Thanks for posting the reference card, too! You can run the game, right from the start, by loading up the file in the Master1 folder. But, if you do it this way, you need to initialize the four game disks, which are in the Game# folders. This means, on the Mini, you need to load the disk, save the game, exit, then load the next disk, save the game, exit, etc., etc., etc. A real pain. By loading the Game1 disk and then restoring the saved game, as you did, it saves a bunch of steps. I suppose, if one was so inclined, you could assign some of the keyboard commands to the Mini's joystick. But, you need the keyboard for so much that going between keyboard and joystick is just an annoyance to me. Might as well just use the keyboard for everything. Enjoy!

Absolutely sounds like this is the easiest way to run it. Now I just have to find the time to play I wonder if 2 years olds are interested in post apocalyptic RPG's? Thanks again for the assist. Getting Wasteland up and running was one of my ultimate goals. Edit: Who am I kidding? The kid would love the game. She leaves the house looking like a post apocalyptic wasteland every day

Update: I created a .CJM file and added it to the zip file so you can use the C64Mini's joystick for some of the game controls. I've outlined the mappings I've use on my Commodore Blog.
